I was just wondering does anyone have the specs of a cop car. I think the crown victoria models and impalas.( Mostly whats around here ). Im not trying to go f&f and outrun them I was just curious. Are the engines modded at all? And what do they run quarter mile. If anyone knows this and could let me know that would be great.

From what I remember reading, it's not the 1/4 mile that's better in cop cars than stock crown vics, it's the top end. After all, that's where they do most of their chasing. The CHP has cameros, though I have yet to see any. I guess they reserve those for bigger towns than the one I live in.

Also, you have to remember that radio waves always travel faster than the fastest car, and cops have radios to call ahead. So even if you're faster than the one behind you, there will probably be one ahead of you too.

I've heard that the Kansas Highway Patrol has a Camaro capable of doing 200 mph.

As my friend always says, "You can't outrun Motorola."

The town that the local 'strip' is, the hot place to go cruise and such, have a few undercover cars. I think they have a maroon Impala, and I know they have a green Camaro. No lights on the outside, just lights on the inside of the windshield. The cops are in full uniform though, so you have to be pretty stupid to drag race one of em. Word gets around mighty fast as to what the cop's latest undercover cars are.

Problem with the sports cars fitted to be cop cars is that they arent very durable for doing anything but tailing ppl at high speeds, imagine how trashed a camaro or mustang would get after a pit move on another car.

Nor Cal has SS Camaros for CHP. They are damn quick too. I watched as a orange 98 i think Acura Integra tried to get away, the SS just caught up like the integra was parked.

My city has a Turbo Cop Minivan. I've watched some get chased down by it, I heard the BOV. I couldn't tell what model of minivan, but I swear on my life that we have a turbo-cop minivan. I have also seen a few Camaros, and a Mustang. Neither of which I am a afraid of. But duplox is right, no car can outrun a motorola.

It don't matter how fast the cars can go, you first need popo stupid enough to go that fast just to hunt down some idiot doing that speed. :uhoh:

When I was in europe last summer allmost all the REGULAR cop cars I saw were BMW M3s, would be great to be a cop in germany lol. And in Monico (wicked rich and small nation between italy and france on the coast) I think I saw a 911 turbo cop car, the cars there were soo sweet, I took a pic of a ferrari and there was another I didn't notice in the background!

I liked them so much, I bought one! This is my '91 9C1. It is currently being repainted and tinted.

Now we have Crown Vics the newer smaller Impala's, and the odd Lumina. Most Police cars aren't much off the line, but once they get going.......... GONE! Like a fart in the wind! :p

From what I know, the Crown Vics(normal cop cars) have a modded auto tranny that has a 'hard shift', stock engine, changed chip, major suspension/handling upgrades... and I think thats about it except for the interior and exterior, which is obvious. I know the highway patrol cars have major engine part upgrades... other than that I think its undercover, which nobody really knows too much about.

in good old southern maryland, theres a modded 5.0, supposedly with a 100 shot. theres some impala SS that are at budds creek sometimes. they take off slow, but somehow they still end up running low 13s. wouldnt wanna try to outrun one of them on the highway. theres a lot of street bikes up here that like to cruise at about 150, so i guess they need something to catch them.

In Barrie they have VW Beetles and PT Cruisers as part of their municipal law enforcement. The OPP cruise around in their Impala Interceptors so people don't get careless.

Around here they use Imapalas, Crown Vic. (Which i heard had a v10 in them? not sure) Camaros, and yes they do have Vipers as HWP, i've seen one personally going down I-10 when i was coming back from Jacksonville one time...but on the beach they use Ford F-150 4x4s.

In my area they have a senior citizen volunteer program....lol. They give them old dodge caravans that say "volunteer senior citizen police" and they drive around. I can't imagine what an 80 yr old is going to do to somebody, but I guess it's the thought that counts, right?

Alot of the cars they use are simply show cars. Ive seen Vipers and Cobras around here in full cop colors, but what the hell are they gonna do in a chase? The Cammaros are usually structuraly modified to withstand ramming a car.

Most cop cars are modded, but not really to any effect. Look at it this way. Take a Cammaro, Crown Vic, Impalla, whatever, then add on anywhere between 500-700lbs of radios, computer, equipment, the light bar, cow catchers, etc. etc. etc. You need the modifications to be able to catch anything that has been modified for going fast.

My dad was a cop in STL, Detroit, Ft. Worth, and Worchester. He said that most squad cars aren't modified much at all, and that it is mostly rumors and urban legends about hardcore Crown Vics with Nitrous, and Cammaros that run 12sec 1/4s. Alot of it is intimidation.

M3s are not usual here in germany, most cop cars are VW Passats here, capable of maybe 140mph.

And we got A6s, E-Class and BMWs as police cars.

Of course the highway police has some faster cars, we also got 911s and Cayennes.

Here in Indianapolis, we have several Camaro's, I've been pulled over by one. Also seen people pulled over by a Corvette, Ford Excursion, Jeep Cherokee, Ford F150, and Dodge Intrepid. Hard to tell what they are going to come up with next.

I saw an article in the paper that Daimler Chrysler has a Police Magnum currently being worked on. both in the V6 (for town-stuff) and the Hemi for the pursuit package.

around here all the local PD's have Crown Vic's and the HP has Impalas. there's a few unmarked Impalas and SUVs in a couple of the cities.

for the guy that saw the Lamborghini cop car...it's a Gallardo in Italy

and the turbo'd minivan...don't know if it's true or not, but i read somewhere that Dodge Caravan engines have forged internals so they can take like 20 lbs. of boost or something crazy like that. of course that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot seeing as how a Dodge tranny is responsible for doing something with that power...
