Hi hows the room doing? for quite some time i have been an admirer of the rx7 at this moment i am 22 years old as well as an unexperienced sports car driver. but i am itching to ask this questions about the 13b and 20b engine. in the future years of my life i would like to practice car drifting (probably w/ an 84-87 corolla coupe) but i also like to have the thought of having rear seats as well if possible i am pretty interested in the performance of some cars if they had a 20b engine kit inside of cars like the 95 bmw m3 the 300zx (the rx7 rival), and the 240sx i was wondering if they would cost alot of money to be done what performance handicaps would be noticed, how long the process of the work for being done etc. (i want to keep these things in my memory bank)
any questions accepted any help appreciated
thanks

20 b swaps are pricey, doing it yourself and fabricating it you could probably get by for 6-10k. But my question would be why. The bmw m3 can be made to make 500hp, the 300zx can make 500hp and the 240 with sr20det swap will get in to the 500hp range for alot less money. Than a 20b swap. If you are thinking about building a drift car it's not about your power. It's about your suspension. High powered cars have something that goes against drifting. Turbo Lag. Thats why you see most drift cars turning around 300hp. Your going to abuse the engine in a drift car so don't go with a 20b. Most of the time you'll be bouncing the rev limiter. If your serious about a drift car. Don't look at the engine, look at the suspension set up. The 240 is yor best bet for a drift car with the sr20det swap. My 2 cents and I've been doing this shit along time. If your determined to do a 20b swap. Only go with people who have a reputation with them. and then it will run 15-20k. Rotories are finnicky and making simple mistakes will put you back alot of money. Good luck, If you have any specific questions about building a car I might be able to help you out.

I would like to say thanks for the reply obviously i am pretty new in this racing activity in my internet searches they have rear seats for the rx7 in japan but have very limited space as well there has been people saying it functions best for small japanese children, one site on ebay said that he had to sell his car cause a baby seat couldnt fit in the back side a british website mentioned that probably functions best for cup holders. hmm so a rotary swap and simple mistakes would cost you big? i do notice that upgrading an m3 can cost a bundle as well i do admit a rotary swaped m3 would be very interesting site to see in a car show because that would be view one wouldnt see everyday
About drifting i notice the 240 is a good choice of car for drifting has good price options to go with and it would most likely be a choice of a car i would choose to get but what really concerns me is how limited are the parts for the corolla coupe 84-87 cause i see its a very cheap car to start off with for 2-3k (lets say i had to go to work and my car is wrecked), i have studied that drifting more than likely one would have to have a little bit of cash because experience people even get their cars hit. if one wanted to practice drifting i understand that one can get their skills good in the rain but is it mostly recommended on the track for that?

Drifting in the rain you get a begginners low speed drift, You have less traction all around so you can learn to control your car a bit. But highspeed drifting is alot different. Best place to find corolla parts is a junkyard. They are old and alot of people didn't take care of them.

buy an 86-91 rx-7 non-turbo, do a good suspension set up and through on an intake and full exhaust and you will have an awesome drift car. they have 50.2/49.8 front/rear weight ratio and they have a great stance. it would also be an awesome car for you if you ever decided to get into autocross. being a non-turbo makes it very reliable as long as you do normal routine maintenance
if you wanna learn to drift I'd say find a big parking lot where there aren't a lot of houses so you dont get the cops called on you. or if you go to church you can use your church parking lot and the cops can't ticket you because its private property(this is how I started) but just get a few cones and practice around them, start out with power over drifts or using the e-brake to initiate the drift.
also learn 180's just set up a cone and try to go like 30mph and pull the e-brake up for a second and turn the wheel, then when your facing the opposite way try to learn to accelerate out. these aren't that hard, I got it on like my 3rd try
I don't have a track near me so I just use roads out in the boonies every now and then, just be careful that no one is around to get hurt.
oh and you can practice on gravel too, thats a good way to low speed learn, sort of like on rain but I think your front tires grip a little better on gravel
anyways thats my suggestions, but good luck with whatever you decide

hmmm dang thats some pretty valuable info about where to drift at (i wrote that info down) you actually have an rx7 that got hit? i just wonder where and how the prize money can be earned at and how you can earn them to be like an insurance backup (from used cars to exotic cars) if you are a good driver. i notice that drifting in america is getting more popular but must get alot of unwanted attention as well when one wants to take it above the quarter mile limit (when done illlegaly). there is always a chance of crashing but must be fun reguardless. it was amazing when i heard those fc rx7 cars they sounded like a bee ready to sting, since that car is a two seater a light weight and a rotary it must save alot of gas no?? But how can one find parts for the older model i notice that its also hard finding a mechanic to even touch the rotary engine. about that last comment about the 13b i see alot of people are quick to say that those engines are easy to fit inside of cars since its very small sized but ill stick to the advice about the engine going wrong if there is a simple problem that happends i sitll think its an interesting sight to see a lightweight 5 seater w/ at least a 13b rotary engine though (95 e36 bmw m3). i do have an invention one can do w/ a fd3s rx7 one could go on the internet look for some backseats (to being a four seater) buy a 20b engine (cause it can pass emissions test in some places since the displacement isnt that big) and the car could be called 4:20 SEVEN kickass right??? Booooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i see how it is!!
alrighty then take care
