battery light

97 cav ss, 2.2L, 85000km

earlier this week just as i pulled onto my street my battery light came on. i didn't worry about it and when i went out later it didn't come on.

today when i came to a stop my battery light came on, the car started to vibrate and my RPMs started going crazy. it stalled, then started after a couple tries. now the light isn't on and the car seems fine.

any idea what the problem could be? alternator?

if it was the alternator is would probably stay on almost all the time or at least have some consistency to it. it sounds like you have a corroded or loose wire. since you said the car vibrated and started reving crazily, i'd say you should check the wires coming off the alternator, the fusable link, the battery terminals for tightness and corrosion, and the ground from the battery. good luck.
