DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO GET THIS FIXED OR IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD PUT IN TO STOP THE LEAK.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP

i have never heard of a mail block gasket. do u mean headgasket? correct me if i am ignorant here. if its a headgasket, its really not that hard of a job on the d16z6 motor. harder then an oil change but you got half the job done already if you removed the timing belt cover.

hi,

i guess its the head gasket.i was told it was the main block gasket but mabe people just call it different things.

Don't pay more than $40 or $50 for a head gasket. Don't believe anyone who says one is better than another. There is no super high tech gasket that only your mechanic can get his hands on. All mechanics rape you on the install anyway (I guess because it sounds so important and difficult) so at least get the part yourself and let them install it if you want. Otherwise they'll end up charging you $100 or more for a stupid gasket. When you bring it in, leave the belt cover off, or otherwise you'll just be paying them more to take it back off again. It's fine to drive without it.

Wait... I just re-read your post. Did you say you already removed your valve cover? If that's the case, then 1) you would need to replace the head gasket anyway - you should NEVER re-use a gasket - and 2) if you took off the valve cover, all that you have left to do is clean the surfaces and put the new one on.
The money you would save doing it yourself would be enough to buy a bunch of other things for your car.

hello,

yes i took the valve cover and the timing cover off the engine to see if i could see where the leak was coming from and i saw the leak coming from behind the timing case.i guess its the block gasket and i have never changed that befor i could do it but its just getting the timing belt back on right i just dont want to mess the car up becouse i have a gretty turbo kit cand intercooler for that car and i want to fix every thing befor i put it on.

thanks for your help

kafzeil :screwy: dude what are you thinking the head gasket is below the head the valve cover gasket is under the valve cover!you should always replace the valve cover gasket when you take the valve cover off but i think it may be the rear main seal or the cam seal is it leaking from the cam or the crank top or bottom!

hi,

its not the valve cover gasket.

its the block gasket its leaking oil not antifreeze.

but the block leak is behind the timing case.so i had to take the timing case off to see the leak.

thanks

I did my own head gasket job on my old engine. Look at how my old engine looked like when I took off the head. Thats what a bad head gasket looks like... well... not the gasket itself but the effects of it.. tons of antifreeze and WHITE smoke

THAT IS A BLOWN HEADGASKET!

Look at this vid and see how fast the smoke comes out. Imagine if I revved this engine lol.
