Cicada Killer has been suggested, but not quite right.

That is one big bug. You may want to take into a lab. They can probably find out what it is. Or find a college level book about insects.

Seen 'em, knew what they were, but I was like 6 when I saw them so i forget. But I was so scared of them, so I used to swat 'em with a bat or something. I was entertained easily...

Maybe a mud-dauber wasp?
Toksin
06-24-2004, 08:27 PM
It's a garden variety wasp.
Watch out, it'll crawl into your ears while you sleep and lay its eggs there

I looked through all Wasp, Hornet, Locust, and Cicada pictures I could find. The closest thing I can find to it is a Cicada Killer....not mud-dauber....Toksin, I'll check garden varieties again...this thing is freaky.....

I got it! its a Horntail Wasp, thats not a stinger on the back. It uses that thing to drill into dead trees and lay eggs.
