I recently bought a 97 2 door Tahoe. The A/C blows cold air, but not much of it. I have heard there is a filter but I can't find any info about it. Help???

On my 2001 Tahoe yours is the same as mine according to the Chilton manuel which covers 1999 to 2001. I found it directly under the glove compartment, underneath the dash on the bottom. It is covered by a plastic shield with two screws.Remove that and the filters are held in by a retaining cap and a screw. There are two filters that are in a vertical position. Mine were extremly moldey and accumated with dirt. There about $30.00 at a GM dealer or if your in no hurry, get the GM part number and go to GMPartsDirect.com. Its about $13.00 plus shipping. Definitly smells better now with the a/c on.Good luck, let me know.

Just realize yours is a 1997 and not 1999. Well it may be in the same spot.

Well I'm at work so I haven't had time to look at it yet, but I rode to the tire store with my buddy at lunch. They had a big display there touting the benefits of ATP's interior vent filters, so I aked the guy working about it. He said "no you must have a vent blocked somehow, the filter wouldn't have anything to do with it". It didn't really hit me until we left but I thought well it sure does in my house, why not my car? Anyway when I hit ATP's website they only listed filters available for 2001+. So when I get home I will investigate. Thanks

Well,Well. Look for the filters, it can't hurt to replace them. The only place I think where you might have a blockage is were the the blower fan comes through the fire wall in the engine compartment.I found alot of leaves there when I replace my filter. My second suspect would be my the your vent doors or a dead squirrel (LOL), had one at one time.Maybe not opening and or closing properly when the dial is turn ???? Good luck...

I have a 97 2 door and the air is weak coming out of the AC vents as well. I have a 99 (old body style) and the air is much stronger coming out of the vents. I would like to know if their is really an air filter in the AC for the older body style. Thanks Dave

I was going to look at it last night but my daughters had other ideas. I'll get at it tonight or sometime this weekend and tell what I can find. I might add that I just bought this truck a month or so ago and the seller told me he had replaced the heater core, so I am a bit suspicious about that. Have you had your '97 long? If so has it always been like this?

Hi everyone! I am new here. I have been doing some research and it seems that I have found others with a similar problem as mine. I have also found a few different solutions. I have a 1997 GMC Suburban that runs pretty good. About 6 months ago, my front/top air vents stopped blowing air. The feet vents work fine, as well as the two rear seat top/bottom vents. The air blows cold, and the heat works fine. Air also blows out of the defrost vent in the front. Sometimes the ac light comes on, sometimes it does not. Whether the light is on or not really doesn't make a difference. I took my Suburban in to get it looked at and my repair guy said that he just wasn't sure. He said that the gauge wasn't switching on when he turned on the air for the front vents. I am really hoping that this might be as simple as the air filter needing to be changed. I cannot afford much at this current moment in my life, but at the same time, I will just "die" if I have to go through another Florida summer without air conditioning blowing out of the top/front vents. I would love to fix it my self if I can, though I am not mechanically inclined, and would not want to make the situation worse. Thank-you ahead of time for your reply!
