I'm new to these forums, and i just wanted to know what you guys think.
7 years ago, i acquired a 1979 Mustang Cobra, it has the 2.3 Turbo charged engine. The engine has about 90,000 original miles on it...Now what I would like an opinion on is... would this car be a "collectible" ? And also would anyone know where to find any parts that i might need for it... I have quite the mustang collection at my house, and this is the only one that really runs right now, i just want to know if it's gonna be worth fixing up for the future.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don think it is genuinely collectible, but its certainly rare. The last time I saw a carbureted turbo 2.3 Mustang it was stripped, crushed, and dumped in the middle of nowhere. That was years ago. I cant remember the last time I even saw a '79. If you cant get parts at a parts store, then a junkyard is the best bet. Alot of parts are hard to get for older vehicles that arent considered "classics". Thats that case even with mine to an extent.

No 79' started the smaller body style...I do also have a 78' Cobra II that my uncle sold all kinds of stuff off of...But the 79' is just a straight Cobra, it has all the emblems on the inside, and it had the snake decal on the hood, i mean the car is actually in really good condition. I was just seeing if there were any places that had mustang specific parts.

Well, then it's not a real Cobra, someone must have put the emblems there prior to you owning it. There was no Cobra produced in 79, the Indy Pace car was the only specialty car sold. The turbo 4cyl was an option in 79, something Ford was labeling as "V8 performance with an economical outlook, in some cases the Turbo 4 was faster then it's V8 counter part.

i can garuntee that its a cobra...everything is the way it was when it was bought...on top of that i know there were cobras produced in 79', ive done searchs and came up with quite a few.....But i can assure you it is a cobra....how fast it really is im not sure, i never really pushed it at all.

Hummm, I stand corrected. One of my books said nothing about a cobra in 79, then another had a small blurb about it. I guess 79 started the 3 year run of the Cobra option with the standard turbo 4cyl, and optional V8. Very intersting.

Now just for the sake of argument, and just so you guys don't think that i come on here, ask a question, and then try to fight about the answers...I know what i am talking about for the most part when it comes to Mustangs.... this car has been within my family since it was bought from a dealership in 1980, my uncle bought it, and then stopped driving it in 1982, so it sat until i turned 16( i was born in 1981 ) At 16 this was my first car, the reason that it was parked was cause the oil pump locked up and he didn't feel like fixing it...But anyways, my uncle also has a 66' my brother has a 67' and my dad has a 68'.. I myself have a 78' Cobra II, the 79' and a 67 with a 3 speed manual ( it only has a 6 cylinder ) so i mean i have knowhow about mustangs....
And the badges aren't on the outside, they are on the doors on the inside, and there is also a cobra and the words cobra on the glove compartment...Not to mention, there were two colors they sold for the cobras ( i know this because of decal kits they have for 79' Cobras ) there was a blue and white car, and there was a black and orange, i have the black one......

cobra decal on the hood... a big huge green decal? if that's the case that makes it a king cobra... i've seen one of those in this area for sale. also, those had sport slats on the hatch glass. i dunno, if i was a 'stang collector i'd want one.

Do be honest it's not really worth much.... rarity doesn't make something valueable, rairty+demand=valuable. There is no large demand for that car.
