Im looking to buy a 2001 Lincoln LS, I was at the dealer checking them out and i looked in the trunck and was surprised to find a battery back there. It has to batteries? Whats this one for?

most newer performance sedans put the batttery in the trunk.
- helps acheive the 50%/50% weight balance
- allows more room under the hood for 'stuff'

they had to even design the fluid reservoirs to put the neck in a place you can reach - then hide the body in a spot that has room - look at the window washer fluid container - it tucked in behind the lower front bumper...

There's only one battery. Also with the battery in the trunk there is less heat and should last up to 2 years longer than if it were in the engine bay.

It's getting VERY common. Not just for performance or luxury cars. My Mom's 2006 Chevy Cobalt has the battery in the trunk too. It also has real trunk struts instead of the luggage crushers the LS has!!
Cars continue to improve every year!!
