My oil odometer isn't going up at all but I checked my oil from the engine and I do have enough oil in there. Does anyone know how to fix the odometer?

OK, I dont know if you already did this but check the oil pressure sensor under your car. get on the bottom of the car. the unit is behind the oil pan. its on the driver side behind the pan. just look for a tiny wire with a metal contact at the end of it. its supposed to go hooked up to the tiny and I mean tiny metal button( about 1 to 1.5 cm circle) kinda looks like a shirt button. if you cant find it I can post some pics by tommorrow.

It is above the climate controlls in the center of the dash with the heat and battery gauges, if you have a 3000GT that is, I have never seen them on other cars.

Musashi3000GT, I haven't had time to go under the car yet. I'll do it after class today. If possible, could you post some pictures? That way I'll know what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help.
Igovert500, yes, the oil pressure gauge. LOL I realized last night that it's not called the oil odometer. My badd!!

sweet, see the last picture? the copper collored bell looking thing in the center. that is the sender. the black thing with the wire leading out to the top is the sensor. they should be connected like in the pic.

Musashi3000GT, is your GT an SL? Because I can't find it....or maybe I'm just blind!?!
Musashi3000GT
06-24-2004, 08:29 PM
yeah man, its an SL, a 94. Just look under the car. follow the oil pan, its on the back. as you can see from the pic its right on top of the cv joint, drivers side. you can even see the belt from the powersteering cross right next to it. I seriously dont think it was moved on other models cause the engines where never changed on our cars, so to relocate would mean some serious moving around of the lower block.

Is it on the front or back of the car?
Musashi3000GT
06-24-2004, 09:10 PM
front. the easiest way to get to it is to jack it up on the front, drivers side. take off the front driver side tire. now look at the back side of the oil pan (the side facing the rear of the car). follow with your finger to where the oil pan meets the enging block. right there is the cylindrical shaped thing in the pic. if you can locate the cv joint you should be right on the sucker. its right above it. and it has to be there, we drive the same cars 94 n/a's.

Okay, so I found the copper thing but can't find the line. I can't take off my tires because I don't have the lug nut key for my car yet. I just ordered it. Any ideas on where the stupid line can be?
Musashi3000GT
06-24-2004, 09:46 PM
well the line should be around there, just chilling out! check around, I dont know exactly where it drops from but is goes over the stearing rods from the rack and pinion, then it just clips on to the "copper thing". dude you know what that means right? at least we've reached the conclussion that it was the sensor!

Yeah, thanks for all the help Musashi3000GT. I can't find the stupid line but I'll try later tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have better luck. The thing is my car is lowered so getting under the car is a pain. Damnit, and I'm supposed to change my coolant tomorrow. Have you ever changed your coolant on your GT before? If so, any tips? :)

any time chief. let me know as soon as you get it all figured out, otherwise I'll check it out from my end this weekend and see if I can tell you exactly where the line leads from.
As for the coolant, not yet, I'm gonna wait till the end of summer when its all wasted out and change it then. but I've never used the "mixed" technique, Ive alwaysed fed it coolant without any water, dont know if it changes anything?! keep me posted.

Hey Musashi3000GT, we (my dad and I) went back under the hood today after we finished changing the coolant and we still couldn't find the line. So if you have time this weekend, please see if you can tell where the line comes from. Thanks.
As far as the coolant thing goes, I just used about 50-55% coolant and 45-50% water (yeah, I literally measured everything out but made sure that there was a bit more coolant in there). I think the manual suggest about 50% coolant and more if needed but not to exceed 60%. So yeah, anywhere around there should be good. My dad said that he usually just dumps a whole bucket of coolant in there and whatever room that's left he adds in as water. I measure. :o) LOL

well I got under the car and the line goes up between the block and the firewall, it conects to a bunch of other wires and the whole bundle goes in through the firewall into the car. it is really hard to trace it too, I spent like a good half hour just looking at it before I realized it mixes into the other wires! vission down there is so limited.

What's the firewall and what do you mean block?
Also, do you know anything about the security/alarm feature that came stock with our cars? What type of alarm system do you have right now (if it's not the stock one)?

ok, the "block" means the engine, as in "engine block". Since the engine is compossed of 2 sections (lower and upper) the lower part is called block, the upper is the heads. The Firewall is metal wall that seperates the cockpit from the engine area. What I ment is that the cable mixes into other cables which wrap up into a big pile of cables all wrapped around each other. the darn thing goes up between the back of the engine and the car and you cant even tell which way it wraps. so my suggestion is that if the cable is lost, it probably is hanging loose some place between on the bottom of the car around the backside of the engine its gotta be around there man. if you can get the whole front of the car jacked up you can get under there and bring a huge lamp with you cause vissibility is terrible down there. My alarm is a clifford but I dont know much about alarm systems.

Okay, does your alarm system have keyless entry? And does it arm/disarm/affect the original security/alarm system in anyway? Because I don't have keyless entry right now and I want one but I don't wany a system that will interfere with my stock security feature.

Oh, well I dont know how the factory system works or how it is wired. I bought the car used and it had a cheap "autopage" alarm. I had it changed for a Clifford at a local alarm/stereo shop. I know if you have powered locks you can easily wire it to a keyless entry. But if you dont have powered locks your gonna have to buy the remote motors which are like $30 a piece. Either way you can have any alarm shop hook it up for about $120 for the whole job.

Hey Musashi3000GT,
I had the same problem as Slade781, I did exactly what you said and I found the wire dangling not connected to the sender. I was wondering if you had good ideas on how to reconnect it. Thx

Fiya3000GT, where did you find the wire at? I can't find mine anywhere.... Was it just "sitting" there? :(

it was hanging close to the sender, i currently have the car jacked up because we are installing a new audio system and need to get through the firewall in order to hook up the power supply. I wouldnt of seen it but i stuck my hand in there since its dark right now and i just had a flashlight, but i felt around...thats about the best i can tell you, just look hard

So does anyone have info on whats best to reconnect the wire to the sender?
Musashi3000GT

Fiya3000GT, I reconnected mine by just putting it back on the sender. when you connect it it makes a "click" sound but sometimes those things get kinda loose and just keep falling off. grab a set of pliers and squeeze the loose reciever tip so it thightens up a bit, dont squeeze too much though and just reconnect it, it should hold just fine.
