I started work on this last night- starting with Aoshima's Vertex RX-7. Chopped the fenders, widened the wheel wells, and started mod's to the chassis. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/501/191219011-med.jpg
I'm stumped on the Enkei wheels though- any suggestions?

Sorry no pics yet guys, my camera is busted. I'm borrowing my friends over the weekend, there will be pics of progress then.
Thanks Vric- you're right, the look a lot like the OZ wheels from Tamiya's Lancer V Rally kit, but with center lock nut instead of 4 lugs. Hmmm....
meantime, I completed the roll cage and started the firewall and dash- everything inside the body of this car is different from the street car, so progress will be slow scratchbuilding so much. I'm giving up using te chassis from the kit- Either a transplant from a Fujimi or completely scratchbuilt. Thanks for looking, and for your patience waiting for pics :)

If you replicate this monster you'll have a stunning model for sure ! Did you notice the 2 pics are not from the same car ? (different hood).

:nono: What about the naca duct between the scoops and the black ... flares(?) on them on the overall view ?
Indeed it's the same No7 car but with a different aero package. Maybe a different race. But that's just small details.

I was going to suggest using the wheels from either the Lancer V or VII WRC kits from Tamiya. Not sure how easy it will be, but I suppose you could fill the center with putty then order a set of center nuts from Sakatsu from any online shop that caries their products. If no one has them in stock, the center locks from the new 2003 Skyline R-34 kits are seperate pieces and you may be able to order them from Tamiya directly...same for the wheels (be sure to try to get the decals as well, or order a set of Eineki rims from Fujimi for the decals).

Agree with that. But maybe you would like to test fit the WRC Evo5/6 Enkei rim into JGTC race tyre. Tyre can be re-order from Tamiya. I did that alot of time
I will be watching this....

here are my wheel options;
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/191219MVC-289Fcopy.jpg

the top one is a mazdaspeed ms01 mag from Fujini's RX-7 R-Spec, the bottom left is Tamiya's OZ wheel from the Lancer rally , and the bottom right is Aoshima's 19" Nismo from the R-34 GTR Nismo Skyline. I'm leaning toward the Nismo, I like the offset the best- what do you think?

Just beginning cutting the fenders-

and again, with the diffuser-

My opinion will be enkei 18" rather than 19". If want to build to look spec, 18" is the real spec, 19" is too big and there won't be gap for the wheel to turn. Moreover, the tyre are racing tyre. Size is fat rather than the road tyre are narrow.
1 question. Do you got any real pict on the rollcage? Could you please share some with us. Actually, I got plan to do 1 for myself too, but since you had started and I'm still search high and low for the interior pictures of this Aspara FD3S...so all I can do is watch your progress.

Hi guys- I need some help with the decals on this car- I have a set from Fujimi's Greddy 9- they help a lot, but I need more. Especially the white ADVAN and YOKOHAMA on the rear, and the various ones all over the fenders and such. If you have any spares or suggestions where to turn, please let me know. Thanks :)

I found some great reference on the web and in the magazines I referenced last post- I tried to find logos for the sponsors online and used those as a guide in photoshop to clean them up and resize them, and colored them to match the photos of the car. Still have a few more to complete- and I'm waiting for an HLJ order- my putty dried up, so fender work is stalled. :banghead: :banghead:

Wow! Aluminum hood? Awesome! How did you make it? I mean, did you use and special tools, and forms or anything like that, or did you just form it by hand, bending it a little by a little till it was done?

lmdrs22
09-08-2004, 10:14 PM
X-acto knife, files, and my fingers :)
i made a couple of test runs with paper plates first, dampened and used various stock hoods to form the basic contours, then added the flared fenders by forming them over some wheel well parts... primitive, but it worked ! I will be forming all of the fenders this way too, I thought it was a lot of fun, and maybe the wing as well...

Hey Alex- I was thinking RP-F1's also, but the spokes have different contours to them, and there are a lot of really subtle differences. They do almost look like 12 spoke Work Emotion's, but are certainly Enkei's, but which ones...? :swear:
