Did I fry my starter?!!

Can intalling a battery the wrong side totally kill a starter? When I try to start my truck, I just hear fast clicks from my starter.
Well, actually, what I really did is to try to jumpstart my almost dead battery with an other but I wired it the wrong side (+ to -...) and saw huge sparks, then I disconnected all that and there it was, a probably fried starter.
Am I right (about the starter being dead) or is it just a fuse or anything?
If I remember, this already happened to me but by just putting a battery the wrong side.

Likely your starter is fine. The clicking is due to low power to the starter itself. You may have discharged the battery, or fried the battery, or fried a battery wire. Sometimes there is a fusable link that might have blown.
My advice is to charge the battery and try again, or try another battery you know is good.

Wow, what a relief, it's fine. As you said, it only was my battery!
But I still have the problem I had before draining my battery trying to start my vehicle: it just stopped and never started again (I have no clue what the problem is, I check that "safety shut-off switch" that cuts off the gas to the motor when you hit something (I was riding in a field, it could have triggered it) but it was fine. (by the way, it's a ford f-150 1990)
When I try to start it, I smell gas. Could it be that it's drown?
I doubt it could be a mecanical problem.
Anyway, thanks a lot!!
