okay, since i can't stay on hold with the service department any longer, i thought i'd get a faster response here....just bought a 2004 corolla, and it reads (if i'm not mistaken) that the first service is a 5K miles. what?? no oil change at 3000?? should i change the oil anyhow, or should i keep it in for the first 5000 miles? i've always obsessively changed the oil at 3K...this seemed off to me...but maybe not, with my first toyota...

thanks for any responses...

To guitargrl I would recomend that you change your oil for the first time at 1000 miles and after that stick with 3000 miles and your engine will last forever in that car. Make sure you do your services at 30,000 miles too.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure 5k is when you should take it in and have the service people make sure everything is still in good order. oil every 3k will keep your car going well over 200k miles

My kid has a new 05 Corolla and we had the oil and filter changed at a little under 2,000 miles. I'll then have it changed at 5,000 miles and then every 5,000 after that. That will keep us on perfect track with the factory maintenance schedule. I'm doing the same with my 03 Camry.

I've recently read extensively about oil change intervals and although I've always changed mine every 3,000 miles, I'm now going to do it every 5,000 instead. The quality of today's oil combined with the factory tolerances of the engines have convinced me that every 5,000 is A-OK.

i wouldnt do it but if thats ur way then go for it. also have in mind how hard the cars are going to be driven if its an old lady driving it then 5k might be ok but if its a teen or some1 young i would go for every 3k. like i know that i drive my car hard so every 2500 i change it full synthetic.
