X-Pipe vs H-Pipe

Hey guys, im thinking of getting either an off-road xpipe or off-road hpipe. I'm just wondering if u guys can help me make the decision. I know the x gives more power (how much more?, about 5 hps?) and also sounds better, but also they cost more. So what im asking is should i pay the extra about...$50?/$100? for the extra power or just stick with an h pipe. Keep in mind im talking off-road, no cats. thanks

Actually, unless you messed up your words, its the H-pipe that usually sounds better. The power difference between the two is minimal. You wouldnt notice it. So sound, or un-noticeable hp, its up to you?

To me, the H-pipe sounds much better than the X-pipe. The X-pipe can sound really raspy, especially with flowmasters. The x-pipe actually won't really give you much more power than the h-pipe until you're on the high side of the 300 horsepower mark. Nevertheless I like the X-pipe. To me it really depends on how much the price difference is. You might get the 5 horsepower you mentioned if you've got at least 350 horsepower.

It wont be a diffeence you can feel. Sound is the biggest difference between the two. If you like that classic Mustang sound, then get the H pipe. If you want more of that NASCAR sound, an X pipe will do it. Be warned, however, that an H will sound good with nearly any muffler while an X will not. X pipes sound better with certain mufflers(usually not chambered like Flows) and a lumpy cam helps too.

my setup will probably demand an xpipe... 408 inches with a big nitrous cam producing about 500-550 hp w/out spray. all through (probably) dynomax straight-throughs. i was thinking an H would sound better, but perhaps i'm wrong? opinions?

I dont think sound will matter with your ~525hp 408. It will sound good no matter what. 3" exhaust with an X and straight through mufflers will make it sound like a stock car. This is probably a case where you will make more power with an X also.

there's a site that you can go to that has exhaust sounds, maybe it'll help you find what your looking for. X-pipe, more power. H-pipe, sounds better. Mustangexhaust.com i think it is. not sure it's been awhile since i've been there. But it helped me decide on what exhaust i'm using now. Bassani long tubes, short xpipe w/o cats, and bassani dumps. all stainless steel
