rack and pinion?

when i let the manual stering go while driving of 1987mr2 na at 25 miles per hour it tends to go slightly to the leftside the discount tire center said i have to replace the rack and pinion.due to the play

is there any way to adjust the play? if not where can I ordered it for reasonable price used one or pick apart cars? thanks in advance

Does the car move to the left or the does the steering wheel turn?
Usually if a car has a tendency to move toward one side of the road, it is out of alignment.

I just bought a set of new tire to discount tire center and they put ultra tires instead of perelli which i ask for and life time warrantee on alignment after i add more money and after i test the car it seems to be lighter to steer than before which is good for me and i realise when i let it go it tends to go to the left after 10 feet or more the steering wheel is in the center. i have to turn 1/4 inch to the right. to go straight.
I bought this up to the shop @ discount tire center
but the guy who aligned the car jose wasn't there so i end up talking whos ever is in charge alex he said we gona check this out after 1 hour he said there's a play on yur steering wheel a big gap and can be fix @$500.00 coz of yur rack and pinion leaks,boltjoint ,rubber boshing and arms are loose.how can it be a leak theres no powewr steering is a manual,and the mecannic says there's no leak just lose when he move the tire up and down .but my steering doesn't shakes when in motion. there wasn't a play in the steering wheel before I change my old tires is just kinda tight to steer.I told him I gona see another mechanics for there opinion
