NIce project!
Love the dash!

I'll follow up this tread because the GT40 is one of the cars that I want/don't want to build and this seems to be a thread that will make me decide wich way to go!
Please keep posting.

Great job deatiling the dash. It looks awsome!

My suggestion for the paint would be like silver or black. Definatly go street as well. Keep up the good work!

Looking :sunglasse so far!

They look good in almost any color combo. As long as you don't make this into a rat rod... :evillol: :grinno: :icon16:

Thanks for the great feedback!! Been away for awhile, got the kids this summer!!!! And no Zoom-Zoom it will not be a rat-rod. I was thinking a chili-pepper red w/ white stripes!!

Nice beginning ol' dude. If you want to build a real race car you can start by checking out some pics of GT40 in races in 1966 here:

http://www.nvsaac.com/gallery/gt40_1966season.htm

I like Dan Gurney's blue Sebring Mk II. I'm mucking about with a Gulf Mk I at the moment. Trouble is the more you look at the kit the more you see that Fujimi got wrong :(

Have you decided on the color?

ol' dude
06-23-2004, 09:47 PM
Yes I did decide on a color!! And I have totally fouled up my project!! Did not test a scrap piece before I painted it!! I used a acrylic lacquer primer, but the midnight black lacquer paint had a reaction to the primer!! Any suggestions would be great!!

Sorry to hear that.
I am still learning so can't help you on this one.
I find the table at the bottom of this Tamiya page quite helpful.
Painting over the top of different types of paints. (http://www.tamiya.com/english/scale/beginner2/2.htm)

Thanks, I knew not to do lacquer over certain primers, but I thought acrylic lacquer would be strong enough!!

Oooh sorry to hear that dude, bad luck. Was it just the different paints that reacted or did the black lacquer eat through the primer into the plastic? If the former, no biggie, just strip it off and start again, every good build needs to be stripped at least once :)

Did you start off with light mist coats of the lacquer? Maybe if you put down too thick a coat too soon that could have made the proccess worse?

While the primer reacting with the paint, it might be very easy to stip the paint and primer

Alright, I spoke with Cadguy today, and he gave me an idea on how to remove my foul up!! It is soaking right now in 91% isopropyl. Will let you all know how it turns out!!?!!

The details are looking good.
Suxs about the body, but it'll be good as new after the alcohol bath. :)

Is this the Fujimi kit? I am thinking about getting one, not sure of the quality tho... This build seems very promising! What's that extra pedal that sticks out..? Keep it up!
