Hey there this 89' civic hatchie my first car so i appreciate any help you guys can give me with this problem.
Its only just started to rain (winter) in my city in Western australia. Now ive got like a serious sound system ive just installed in there , 2x12 inch subs , amps, splits in the front and 6 n a halfs for rears. Now its started to rain i realize that the water is coming down on both driver and passenger doors and dripping onto my 6 n a halfs.
When i brought the car the guy had these water damage wooden spacers under the stock 6 n a halfs. At first i was like ok, but now i realise why. Rain!
Are the cars designed to leak like this. The seal is actually flush with the window. I took the door panel off and spray water on the window. It ran down, then stopped on the seal and then like since the car is sloped forward it ran down to the front of the window along the seal and drips down right onto the speaker. How annoying, i was thinking about just putting like a down pipe like you do for the roof of a house and have it run around the speaker to the bottom.
But i dont like the idea of this "band aid" solution. Does everyones civic built like this? did honda design it to drip down?
I rang up honda thought about getting some new seals . But i dont think this will fix the problem since the seals on mine are flush with the window. The bloke at honda reckons its not a complete seal aswell.
Any ideas on how some of you with good stereo systems have over come this problem or is it just my car?

It is not supposed to leak, common sence should tell you that. I would be more worried about long term car than some cheep speakers. Its going to rust out your door eventually. You really havnt told where it is leaking, witch seals are you talking about? The weatherstripping around the top of the window or the window felts at the bottom. Need more information.

i ahve a 90 crx and i think i know what ur talking about. the rain comes in between the seals at the bottom of the window and the window right behind the side view mirrors. mines been doing it for a while now (at least sinse i got it in may of 03) and i havent had any rust problems in my doors or any speaker problems. i think it just drips off the speaker and goes in the bottom of the door and i guess eventually drips outsider again

I apologise for not supplying more information. Yes its the felts at the bottom of the window right behind the side view mirrors. And yes common sense would tell me it's not supposed to leak. But when i actually take a look at those felt seals, they seal perfectly flush with the window and no one ive shown can work it out. Most just say its designed to be like that, so i assumed so aswell.
Sorry im not able to articulate the situation into words well but the situation is such that the water runs down the window to those felt seals. Imagine water running down the centre of the window doing so, then the water sits on the seal and proceeds down towards the front of the car (towards the side view mirrors), then when it gets to the end of the seal it drips down inside the door , just over the speaker.
And yes im sure the bottom of the car doors must be rusting, and it annoys me but until i find a solution im stuck.

Mine does the same thing... In my case, it's the weather-stripping along the bottom edge of the window (on the outside). It's worn and doesn't fit like it used to, letting water seep in. I haven't fixed mine yet, but I need to do it...

My seals are good but still get drippage. There's a rust hole in the driver side door jam that's been there for who know's how long too but it's never gotten any bigger. Every time it rains I get some drippage come in from the top part of the hatch by the roof onto the flip down cover over the lock box. I had some cheap rear speakers but they got wet so I just yanked em' and I use the subs for rear and alpine 2 ways in front doors and tweets. Water always drips onto the front of speaker grill in on passenger side as well, but the alpines are fine. I can live with it... 14 year old car...

Hey well just to update, i didnt fixed the problem its still dripping but i just put some of those noodle cups , you know the bowl of two minute noodles , around the back of the speaker to stop the dripping , works 100%! Im so happy. So anyways i got splits and rears and subbies cranking now so im stoked =)

I had the same exact problem in my car. I went to honda and bought both seals for like 150 $ U.S. Well I installed the seals and the problem stayed the same. It's driving me insane. I drive with the door panels off and I watch the water bounce off my speaker onto the interior of my car. Really pisses me off. Also driving in the rain really sux because when the car startes getting warmer the water starts to vaporize and fogs up all the windows !!! ARG!!!! I don't know what to do any more.!!!!! :banghead:

it may be the door rubber leaking and not the window rubber, check the seal between the Door and the Car not the window and the door, also , get somebody to run waterinto the car while you inside so you can exactly locate the leak
