I'm another from Oz. (Look at the name). ANd I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but ALL of those you mentioned we have had access to for some years.

No offense but whats your point? Yes you guys in OZ get those cars (even if some are from grey market) but what do you drive? :finger:

You guys from OZ gotta realize something, that if we 'mericans want something bad enough and theres a market for it, we will get it.

Look at the last M3, we got the the the 240hp toy where the Europeans got the 300+hp variety. BMW realized what a mistake that was since 8 out of 10 M3's were sold in the states. Now we get the 333hp M3 just like everyone else

We will get our cars no matter how perverted the version we get. Mitsu Lance? What a joke! But that opens the door for the EVO. We finally get a WRX (as ugly as it is) and grabbed up as many as we can.
Think about this for a second, when was the last time youve seen a V6 in a GTR? You can thank us for that too! :finger: :flipa:

It's not the size of the boat, it's the motion in the ocean. :sun:
No, seriously, I have all the delectable cars I want and didn't even have to campaign or get my bully-cos-it's-bigger country to twist Japans arm behind it's back. You will always have a delay getting nice cars in the states, firstly because of the conversion to RHD and secondly because of the supply/demand means makers have to stockpile for a while to satisfy demand. You wanna see what I drive? Look under my avatar. Game, set and match. Oh yeah, that reminds me, we always kill you at tennis too. :flipa:

Granted you have a nice set of cars, but all the cars that you've listed we already have here. :smoka: Also I didnt know you were listing all your rides, I only listed my primary. Heres the rest:
Infiniti M30
Nissan Pathfinder SE
I see your bet your call :D

firstly because of the conversion to RHD and secondly because of the supply/demand means makers have to stockpile for a while to satisfy demand
I only know of one car that had a major problem with conversion to LHD and that was the GTR. All the others (EVO, STi) already have LHD versions of the base model or LHD in other countries. The biggest problem for most cars is either emissions or crash worthiness. The former for the WRX the latter for EVO. We have one (WRX) and we're getting the other(Evo).

So I guess the original point is valid we yanks are slow, but thats because we do things our own way :frog:

OT: Just tennis? I figured you guys would have a bigger upper hand in all international sports? :D

Yeah, the sport bit is true. Except the winter ones - funny about that. Lets put it this way, we both get delectable cars and are now happy. So why butt heads? Enjoy your Evos. I've driven STis and Evos (BTW, which one are you getting?) and the Evo is twice the car the STi is.

No hard feelings man :D :toothless
Winter sports? Do you guys see snow down there? I though you lived in a tropical paradise. I kinda image the Jamacian bobsled team :D

My friend just got a WRX after I told him about it 2 years ago. That a##hole didnt believe me when I said it was coming back then. Now he doesnt believe me when I told him the Evo is coming. I want the Evo so I can stomp his brains in but I'll have to wait and see if we get a crappy version of the Evo or just a detuned version.

I like the Evo because its so much further ahead in technology over the WRX. Actually the Subie's B22 was on par with the EvoVI, but that B22 a different animal. Besides I'm seeing alot of WRX's on the road now.
For a while I thought I was in Subaru country.

Plus it helps that the EVO won 5 WRCs :finger: So I'm a front runner but at least I admit it! :p

I'm also drooling in anticipation over the GTR. I know its outta my price range but it be nice to finally have it in the states. :)

Hey Oz do you guys get the Accord type R? I've only read about it but I have no stats on it.

Oz
02-01-2002, 01:35 AM
Yeah, we have snow down here. Not for long. Like June-September is our season. And no, no Accord Type R. I think maybe NZ has it? GOod luck with your Evo. I've driven skylines. Why not think about a GTS RWD? Still helluva car.

TriStateGuy
02-01-2002, 10:00 AM
Thanks Ozriceboy

The GTS rwd... I think we'll be getting that as the Infinity G35. Thats a big 4dr sedan but at least its a rwd.
Is the GTS a turbo? I dont think we're getting that then, I know for a fact that we're getting a N/A 3.5 255hp version. Oh well at least we getting a rwd platform from nissan again.

Whats your dream car?

Oz
02-02-2002, 07:06 PM
The GTS I was referring to is the R33 and R34 GTS which is a RWD 2.5l turbo coupe. Bewdifull. Now just switch that traction control OFF. hehe. Good fun. THe car in my sig is just a pic I found, but it is something reminiscent of my first major project car. 5th gen Civic hatch worked with B16A and JRSC, 17" mags, slammed, kitted, racing buckets the whole bird. SHould be commencing in around 12 months. Right now I just drive the cars in my avatar. :)

i have to make a major note here....

since we are slow and get our cars later...

remember that if we wanted a supercar now, we would just buy a zo6 or a viper, or any other rwd monster v8 car...

and isnt pete sampras from the states? and those twin chicks?

but anyways... the evo will be better b/c it is coming after the sube... which kinda sucks, b/c they tested the market, and now the evo can come over the way we really want it... so it is a step up from the wrx, just like the sti will be when that comes here... so i think mitsu was smart to let the wrx come here first, b/c it is widely known that there is a step up for that bad boy, whereas the evo is recognized as having only one model, (i know there are more, but for the sake of arguement, you should understand what i mean)

either way... i want one... what about extreme sports? skaters, bikers? you guys got those like we do? i know there are some, they just havent come here eh?

Even if most of the cars we get here are detuned, I don’t think I care that much. When I get my WRX I plan on doing mod’s, so I can’t really compare what another country gets and what I have, its not stock vs. stock. ;)

Oz

We have our own breed of monstor V8 RWD bests. Made by Holden, HSV and Ford. I personally would never buy one. Yes, you have Sampras, Agassi and the Williams (pain's in the ass though they are). We have Hewitt, Rafter, Phillipousis etc. Oh, and we win :p. Yeah, we have extreme sports left right and centre. Anything you guys have, we have. IN fact, many leading world experts consider Australia to be the country most similar to the US outside the US itself (yes, that includes Canada). Oz.

I guess I better pick up a WRX and chat with you fellas. They rock and I need another car.
Im an Aussie in the US. Australia has much more badass cars but you can actually buy the car you want in the US (New!). Funny that.....

It's a shame that so many americans choose to just stick a huge exhaust pipe on their rides instead of going for the cheap performance that is available here....

The WRX is sure selling like hotcakes here - the dealers are real buggers about it. They dont even get out of their seats at the dealership!

Cheers & Beers

Thanks! Ive been here several years. I live here permanently (for now).

I spend a lot of time in the Nissan XTerra Forum but have recently developed a serious interest in the WRX. I test drove two of them last week (the wagon and sedan) and am hooked. I think Ill pick one up in the next few months.
The availability in Seattle is terrible though on the WRX.

If only I could get my hands on a HSV..........

I'm an Aussie and I don't share the opinion of Ozriceboy.

Why start this kind of crap. The US have 3000GT's, Eclipses and Supra's with bigger standard turbo's than our Aussie imports. America didn't twist Japans arm to have these cars - Japan wanted to increase their market in the US, the classic example is DSM (Diamond Star Motors which is made up of Mitsubishi and Chrysler).

Each country has their own tough car, V8's, 6's and 4's. Where do General Motors Holden in Australia get their 'flagship' performance V8 engines from now? GM of America.

Apologies if you know these people and are having a stir, but if not, I don't agree with your narrow view.

OK. THe 3000GT was an Australian delviered car also. I have driven a mates red 1993 example. Eclipses are currently being tested for the cost of adherence to ADRs to be brought here and Supras are all over theplace thanks to grey imports. Your statement about America not having to twist Japans arm about these cars is rediculous. The words BIGGEST WORLS MARKET spring to mind. I think you need a serious reality check before you start flying off the handle about my 'narrow' views again.

GT30Girl

THe 3000GT was an Australian delivered car also.

3000 GT’s in Australia, there’s not that many, and even less modified. In my state, I’ve seen about 4 in 5 years. They are here but show me any 3000GT/GTO that could out-mod a US one.

Supras are all over the place thanks to grey imports

Grab ANY Supra in Australia and try to run the times of US spec ones with exactly the same mods. That’s right, you can’t. They all have smaller turbo’s and cams than the US ones standard. Just check out the mph of any BPU Supra – you wont find any Aussie/ Japanese spec import one with exactly the same mods running nearly as fast.

Eclipses are currently being tested for the cost of adherence to ADRs to be brought here

I’ve seen one here for testing, but they’re not here yet , and might never come, you're boasting about something they already have, and we don't yet.

America not having to twist Japans arm about these cars

Japan/ Mitsubishi knew they had the potential for a larger market in the US and knew that making cars on their soil (USA) would increase their sales without the import costs, etc. Incidently, the Mitsubishi Eclipse is the only one out of the 3 cars it was badged as from Diamond Star Motors that has survived.

They get the ‘new gen’ WRX Turbo/ Sti and you laugh about that, well we’ll only/ maybe get the ‘new gen’ Eclipse – meanwhile they’re currently down to the 8’s with theirs. Our WRX’s are only in the 10’s, atleast 1 second behind AWD Eclipses.

I love Australia and love what we have, but in regards to Supra's, GTO's and Eclipses, I think USA has the better hand.

Well, to add fuel to the fire, down here in little 'ol New Zealand, we get all the good shit. For some reason, there aren't many cars that are different between NZ and Japan.....

75% of the cars in NZ are used Jap imports, about 15% are new Japanese cars, and the rest come from Ausie and Europe.
Thats why there are so many Japas here.
Aussie is not far behind, however they dont get the same number of used imports that we do.

But simply becasue of our geographic location we do get a lot of very cool Japanese cars sold here new and 2nd hand.
Cars that will never make it to the US except as rare private imports which often are not raod legal.

However it works both ways; when was the last time you saw a ZO6 Corvette, or a SS Camaro? or a Dodge Ram? or an F150? (there are few now being sold in Aus, but not many). How about a Viper? Or Prowler?
Or one of the US Spec Maximas with a 6sp and due to its smaller size performance to match most HSV's.
Or the US Spec Odyssey which is quite a bit bigger than the Japanese version we get.
How about an Acura TL?
OR a 3000GT (GTO) Spyder?
Or a DeLoren? Theres only one in NZ and its locked in a museum, but people use them as daily drivers in the US.

You can just as easily say we're a little slow here in NZ and Ausie.
But the reality is niether coutry is behind the other.
We just happen to have differnt selections of cars due to our polotical and geographic circumstances.

75% is a little far-fetched-- I'd put it at 60-65% and NZ new Jap cars at 25% the rest would make up 15%- unless there has been some form of crazy surge in Used imports since I left- which I doubt because of the new restriction laws on older cars;)

Well just got the good news that we 'Yanks' are getting

I know there a shit load of imports.

What I meant was there are very few cars that are different NZ new compared to JDM. Example: Japanese S15 197kw, NZ S15 197kw, Oz S15 174kw'??'. We don't have as many emissions laws (yet) compared to other countries around.

Those power figures seem slightly ascue- the NZ and JDM are 184 Kw, the Oz version is 147Kw- I can't give an explanation as to why
