Police arrest racers

A group of nine street racers were taken into police custody after a tip led police to a race early Monday morning.







Officials said nine street racers were arrested Monday after an early morning tip led police to a race.

About 20 cars were spotted on Interstate 37, near Hot Wells, blocking off traffic — that's when the tip was called to police.

Shortly after, police made the arrests and impounded vehicles.

Officials said five of the people arrested are facing charges of obstructing a highway and four others were charged with not driving the posted speed, that charge could bring a fine of up to $2,000 and up to 180 days behind bars.

"There was one woman who was visibly shaken and told police that she feared for her life, she didn’t know that because she was being forced to slow down, whether or not she was going to be carjacked," San Antonio Police Department spokesperson Sandy Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez also said at least one of the cars had nitrous gas, which acts as an accelerant.

"It speeds-up the vehicle to make you go even faster," she said.

Police are looking for other drivers who were involved in the race, but got away. They hope this case will be the last they see for a while.

Well i give a f*and hopefully everyone on this forum does because street racing is what this forum is about, and this will have an effect on every street racer out there.

this happens all the time man, not like this is the first time. races get broken up all the time, part of the rish you take when you street race. every racer knows this nothing new. plus they are dumbasses for blocking off an interstate.

btw how is this goin to affect me, you said this will affect everyone. i live in chicago wont affect me at all

Cops get ideas from everywhere and if this ends up working on military they will use this style elsewhere, and this does not happen all the time only once in a long while.

ok im sorry you know all about what happens out here. you know people dont get busted for racing all the time in chicago because cops only bust people once in a while. do you street race at all man? im guessing not

ontario happens to be about 10 miles north of me, so what your post was about will not effect me because those police probably learned it from the cops out here. and by the way, aside from the title, that took some guessing to figure out what it was saposed to say, where does it say anything about it having to do with military personel?

Thats the best thing about being in Dallas/Ft. Worth...not many racers, so cops arent on the look out to much. And most of the cars that do race are Domestic, so the imports are usually left alone.

i have no idea about military either, maybe he meant by a military base or military tactic or something, but i have no clue

Military is a street in San Antonio where people go cruising and racing. Its a hot spot for racing as is Nacogdoches. Look again at my post i mentioned military street once(I apologize for the confusion but was hoping you would use your imagination after all its street racing). Street races do get busted on but stings are not as common in San Antonio. I believe there getting seriously fed up with people dying as a result of street racing. If your going to street race dont do it in big numbers, because it will just tip the cops off and go to different spots to race. If these people would have taken this race to some other part of town this would not have happened, or atleast would have been less likely.

I totally agree with you, look at all the cars maybe im being predjudice but most were imports. I guess they thought blocking off traffic would reduce the risk of crashes, but i bet they never expected to get arrested.

actauly, i remember one time a couple years ago that i was watching the news. i was watching something about a motorcycle club, (the rough rider). they are a real club. it was back when the 3 wheel bike thing called the stinger or whatever it is first came out, the one in the movie biker boys if any of you have seen it, that the one guy rides in when he gets cripled. anyway the story was done here in socal about bikes doing all kinda of stunts on the streets. and one part of it was that a bunch of the bikes had ligned up next to eachother just like the cops do witha rolling road block and slowed traffic on a mazor freeway down to a stop. and the news crew was in there van just ahead of the bikes and trafic and the stinger thign or wahtever was doing burnouts and stuff right there on teh freeway with the trafic stoped 30 yeards behind him. anyway that post was mostly pointless but it really does happen.

When the cops catch street racers, they should confiscate all of their mods. They should be able to earn their mods back by picking up garbage on the side of the road.

you want to know what its like in northern cali, well they have a special unit called operation STING. when street races go on they wait about 2-3 weeks before they raid and prior to those 2-3 weeks they will have the unit patrol the city and racer profile any car that looks modded. they will pull you over for no legit reason to pop your hood and see if your car is in any way modded, they will run numbers to see if you have any stolen parts and if modded they will send you to the state ref sounds fun doesnt it

i got a couple but ill tell u about this one time...........okay it all started out a dark crazy full moon night........well theres this place where we race where theres only 2 spots to get out...a exit at each end..... sooooooooo thers millions of cars and people...... as everyone is lineing upppppp i drive down the one side of the road and of course its sooo packed that u cannot move cuz theres cars to the front, back ,curbs and people to each side..... so i wass stuck right smack dab in da middle... i was like right next to where they were letting the races off u know the flagger and alll i didnt even have to get out of my car buut im thinkin to my self there comin cuz see here u have to be on the move every 10 mins cuz the cops are always on patrolling yet everyone still comes back.....crazy but anyway.....im waiting tryin to watch the races tryin to get beyond the point as where i was STUCK because if the cops come im dead.... so of course 10 secs later all i hear is the big boyz indicating that they have arrived and i was likeeeeeeee ........... and no one is movin yet so people r like running from all directions so finally i see the smallest spot come open and i was like im goin for it even though i saw millions of cars ready to go to.... so as the saying goes" her/he who hesitates is hers/his lost" so i dodge it........ here the cop was like right there waiting blockin the other side and i just kept goin almost hit id say like 40 people and see the cars down there dont car there run right into ya.... plus there is a light right at the end of the exit soooo i just had to blow that and we were out of derrrrrr!!!!!!! so me and my friend like clapped hands lol and i looked over and theres this car full of people were likin crackin up at us... and the best part was that the song sweet home alabama was on and we were like flyin over all this bumps and what not..... the cops chase u down there and they try and get whoever they can o u gots to gooooooooo!!!!! i think its one of those stories where u have to be there... i wish i would of video taped it so u guyz could of seen it but thers always this weekend!!!!

Braggin about these situations on the net is not smart, because you never know whos a cop trying to find the racers who run from the cops.
I believe you just leaked too much information for them. Just hope you dont get caught next time.p.s. have you noticed no one has jumped in to share there run from the cop stories. I wonder why?

well i'm not gonna go into specifics for previously mention reasons, but it involved breaking roughly 5 traffic laws (depending on how much you wanna nit-pick) infront of a cop, diving into someone's driveway and getting the hell out of there once the cop was out of sight...fun shit

caleb isn't steering you guys wrong, ask the mods around here, there's been rumors and maybe even proof that cops have came in here to find info on were street races were at, he was simply telling you to be cautious.

Sure can do but need to get my computer tuned and oil leak fixed. So i havent really been to the spots for a while now. I live in San Antonio by Judson High School. I guess if you give me a couple weeks I might go back and visit starlight but i cant go to naco anymore. My friend died there in his v8 mustang. I drive a yellow corvette.
