Ive been waiting a long time to get this 396ci big block (its a small big block) and finally im buying it. It is from a 1969 chevelle ss, and it includes the block (obviously), crank, rods, oil pan and windage trays. It came stock from the factory with 375 hp but once im done buying the new pistons, heads etc. i should have it up there in the 500hp range. God i love muscle cars.

500 naturally aspirated right?
Very cool. How much did the motor cost? Be prepared to spend a lot on gas... it's a nightmare.

It cost me 999.99 amazingly. And yes gotta love those good ole chevys. And 500 naturally aspirated is very easy to get naturally aspirated, remember were talking about muscle cars which are under the grandfather clause for smog which means i dont have to smog it, i plan on a 12.5 to 1 compression ratio so i will get high horsepower. Ive seen my freinds uncles camaro with a small block 350 pull 430+ hp on the dyno downtown, although he motor isnt built for endurance and he has to break it down every 2 thousand miles and adjust the valvetrain and repair some damages it still does it.

My 383 puts out around 423hp and 437ft-lbs.
Of course it'd make that if it were running, loss of interest keeps me from finishing it up. :p

Sorry.
I have more fun with my 240z, than I ever did with my old Nova.
I liked riding out in the country and back roads on my motorcycle, but since my accident on my bike I don't ride anymore. So my Z is the next best thing... and safer.
But I bought my new motor for the Z, as you can see in my sig. I'll save a bit and get the Nova going and probably sell it off.
It'll be a good buy, considering its a brand new 383 making 425hp. Built TH350 tranny along with it.
Sorry.

Yeah... I kinda know a thing or two about muscle cars myself. :icon16:
Hope you're running aluminum heads with that 12.5:1 compression.
*ping ping ping boom*
Sounds good. Keep us posted.

Ya, I plan on running all the big performance parts. And along with that 396 im going to get one of becool's radiators and get a highvolume water pump so it will keep the motor nice and cool so i dont have any problems with pre-ignition.

500hp, 12.5:1 compression and pump gas is do-able... just please make sure to get an aluminum head. I'm sure you know what you're doing so I'll stop whining.
But my friend built up an engine with the same compression on his 350 smallblock thinking he would be okay on 91 octane and the first time out at the track he blew his engine up. :banghead: I heard it pinging and kept telling him to get off the course but the third lap around it blew up... I wanted to punch him.

Well yeah, it'll be ok on pump gass. At least, it;ll be ok on pump gass in Texas, where you can get 93 octane. Or better yet, in italy, where you can get 98. :D
I agree with GTStang, Redneck... take that 383, put it in your 240z, and start running low 12s.

humm.... does it count as pump gas if its 110? it still comes out of the same pump as all the rest. there are a couple 76 stations around me that have 110 "race gas" at the pumps. its like 4 or 5 bucks a gallon though if i remember corectly.

Wow, you can buy race gas at a 76 station? Where in california are you? Sorry, it's a bit OT, but I'm curious now.
