AC Hissing - Need Help

Hi,
I have a 96 Astro. After recharging the AC (Aftermarket Kragen cans), it cooled fine while running. Then once I turned off the vehicle, I heard hissing (discharge) sounds down below the drivers floorpan. There appeared to be green dye leaking down the bellhousing.

Any ideas? I'm thinking the manifold gasket got blown. Please Help.

Sounds like you have an AC leak. The green dye is used for a leak indicator. However, you might be able to help me out. I have the 1997 Chevy Astro and I cannot find the low-service port to charge it up. It has not been charged in 7 years. Anyway I noticed a port on the accumulator that the bottle fits on however that is not the correct one. There is metal line next to my radiator cap and the bottle does not fit on that port either. I just can’t seam to find it.

You need a connecting hose to connect the can and the accumulator together. I got a charging kit at the auto parts store for $20 and 2 cans of freon for $15. The charging kit (hose with connectors, GAUGE, pistol grip handle) connects to the fitting on the accumulator, the can connects to the charging kit.

This is how I did mine. Start engine, turn a/c on high, connect hose to accumulator and read gauge. If it is below 25, add the can of freon. Make sure to hold the upside down when you pull the grip. The gauge should read between 25 and 45. Don't add too much, it will cause problems, so don't go over 45. My unit took 2 cans and today is down to 30 but it is still pumping out the cold air.

I didn't figure I would connect it to the accumulator. I thought I would connect it to a special hose. Didn't don on me.
