The easiest for rocks is a jeep
sand needs lots of hp so an older full sized pick up or sand rail are the best.
Just about anything will work.
I personally feel Toyota trucks rule and the 92-97 landcruiser (FJ 80) is the best period. I hate jeeps. They are purpose built and everyone and their uncle has one.

What, you mean stock? The jeep rubicon does pretty well. For a truck, a toyota pickup will kick ass since you can get one with a locker from the factory. Both will get stomped by a mercedes unimog though.

As the other postings say, it depends on the application.
Off road terrain is extremely varied, and different vehicles perform better at different things.
This is why so many off road vehicles are modified to suit the conditions they will see.
The best off road vehicle is a 4 wheel drive that has been modified to suit the particular conditions it will face.
The brand name (Toyota, Jeep etc) is not as important as the modifications made.

It depends, like everyone has said, on what you're doing. My S-10 4x4 is very well suited for an everyday driver/hunting truck. My friend's dad uses an F-250 because he hauls cable equipment through some logging roads. Jeeps are good for mountains and rocks. A one ton will be good if you need massive power and want to be able to pull something. Think about what you're doing before you buy and you'll probably make the right choice.

I think a Jeep with slightly bigger tires and like 4 inch lift would be good for almost anything might get a bit tippy tho.

um. H1?
Actually they aren't that great. They are too wide and have shitty ground clearance so they high center a lot. They are good for towing in "rough" terrain, but that's about it.

best all around off road is a chevy blazer fullsize k5. the wheel base is great for on and off road. with very few mods it can wheel with the best of them. parts are very easy to find alot of knowledge to go around on them and there are many types to choose from and any budget can wheel one.

um. H1?.
An army hummer would be good H1 are like a child's toy compared to an army hummer. Controled tire inflaction would be the nice part but an h1's tie rod's would snap like a twig if it even looked at a rock.

see i'd go Toyota... they just don't die! i guess it depends how far from a road you're planning on going... sand/snow/rocks/mud only ever got our hilux (tacoma) stuck once... snow.. probably cause of sand style tyres...

i have a 99 tacoma x-cab 4x4, i have taken it off road several times, they are awsome and i dont believe that you could get one stuck. i like to take mine up in the hills after it has rained and washed the roads out, its always fun taking the truck up and over big ruts and running through the giant mud holes. and i can also say that i have climbed a tree in mine, there was a tree down across the road and i climbed over it. it wasnt a big tree, might have been 10 inches round. me and my buddies has contests to see who can get their truck the mudiest. i got back on the hard top once and i had to get out and wipe the windows off mine was so muddy. but this is the only truck i have ever owned and i think it is an excellent truck to take off road.
