2004 air conditioner question

Bought the truck (xlt, 3 liter engine) new this year. When the air conditioner is operating the clutch/compressor cycles on and off about every 10 seconds, with a sick sounding clunk every time. Most annoying car air conditioner I have ever used. The dealer insists this is the way it is designed to operate. Has anybody else had a similar experience?

i have a 2000 that is fairly loud also from brand new.the clutch engages in & out more often when it is not so hot. when it gets really hot the clutch stays engaged longer to keep it cool

I Have A 2004 Edge With A 3.0l--has The Same Click Click Of The Ac--it Drives Me Crazy Too--they Say Its Normal And The Ac Pump Is Mounted High On The Engine So Its Closer To You --the Power Steering Also Is Loud--sounds Like A Old Car That Needs Fluid When Turning Deep

Ive got a 2000 with the same sounds....runs great, just the clutch is a little noisy.
