two dummy lights on

I've got a 1988 Chevy Caprice with a 4bbl 305 v8. By now, I'm sure that the car probably needs a tune up by now, but with all these other costs that I have coming my way right now, it got put off. But I was wondering would Denso Iridium plugs, an MSD Ignition wireset and a WIX fuel filter work in the car, I know I can get ones that fit, I just don't wanna screw the car up. I had a friend who had told me not to use Bosch Platinum+4s in it because they would run too hot for an older engine like that. So I don't want to screw up the car any more than it is now. So, if there are any gearheads that know more about an older model car like mine, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to pep the thing up or want to improve how it runs? I have nothing against the fuel filter, I'm not sure about the wire set, but why the Iridium plugs? If the plugs are rounded, yeah, it neads a new set but if you have no problem with fouling or the point melting I wouldn't really go to the expense of a fancy plug. AC plugs were developed by the manufacturer for their own stuff so I would stick with that. Got a problem with the wires bleeding through? Burning up? Stick with OEM (ie Delco) brand set because they were developed with your car in mind and may cost the same or less. As my Dad just told me "If they can't develop and make plugs and wires for their own cars who can?" unless you for high performance then you spend more . . .
Let me guess . . . your 'Check Engine' and/or 'Service Engine Soon' lights are on? This is because your signals from the engine don't fit within the the value range the computer says it should run in. Even a tune-up may not turn these ORANGE lights out . . . sometimes the air outside the car (humidity; pressure) can effect it.



P.S. If the light is RED you should turn it off immediately and check it out . . .you've got woolier problems than that . . .
