I have a 88 CRX with a B16A and stock clutch and all those mods on my signature below. The other day when i raced i spun soooooo much, what do yall think i should rev to. I was revving to like 4500 because i had it at like 3500 and tensed up a little right before i dumped the clutch. I just got the car about a month or so ago and im still getting used to it, so if anyone who has experience with similar setups, i would appreciate the input. Also how would i know if my clutch is slipping, is it the kinda hesitating when your shifting hard, where it slowly revs down or sumthin. I think mines doing it, if thats what it is what do i need to do/look "forward" to doing? :grinno:

what you described about a clutch wearing out seems too me like your clutch is going. But, it could've just gotten really hot from racing...that can happen too.
As to where to launch at, it depends on many things...tires, driving conditions...etc.
I usually say around 2800 rpm.

You know your clutch is slipping if it's slipping under pressure... I.E. shifting into gear and hearing the engine rev up but the clutch doesn't catch until you take your foot off the gas and let the RPM's drop. Same problem during hard launches... and it gets worse real fast... mine got to the point where I was going 60mph down the road, started going up hill, gave it gas to keep the speed up, and the clutch slipped and the engine started revving but I was still slowing down.
At that point, is time to replace the clutch.
As for lauching... bam is right... there are too many variables... just drive your car for a while and learn to drive it right. Don't try to be all 'the fast and the furious' after only a month of owning the car.

with a lot of practice, a good clutch, and some good tires, i would say launch at 5500rpm and slip the clutch.
wheel spin at low rpm is caused by clutch dumping and inexperienced driving. Basically, you want to launch at about your peak torque and dont let it drop from that point..
a couple guys i know who have a shop and build hondas for a living say that with slicks, on a b16, you should be launching no lower than 6500 rpm, due to it being totally gutless with no torque. gotta keep it in those high revs to do anything..

How do u purposely slip the clutch, prolly a dumb question but i dont know much about clutches. if i rev to 5500 and dump it, i slowly move forward while spinning the tires, i could win a burn out contest. HEHE

basically, instead of just dumping the clutch, you purposely slip the clutch.. ride the clutch... dont release the clutch all the way and feather gas... whatever you want to call it. this will stop wheel spin, which leads to low 60' times since you dont move, just spin the tires..

I launch my B16 around 3500 or so for my best 60' times.. Anthing higher and it just spins too hard when you shift to 2nd, and then it loses momentum when you shift to 3rd.
Thats just on regluar crappy street tires though, if you have better tires (by the sounds of things you don't), then you can obviously launch higher.

b16 crx kid , just find a back road or a track and keep practicing. there are all kinds of things you have to take into consideration. like tire condition, road condition, or little things with the car that could effect the results. go out and try it a bunch of times till you feel you have found the best rpm to launch at.(dont let the clutch get too hot cuz it will slip)

Not a road, go to a racetrack. Then you can experiement with the clutch, and the RPM and SEE down the thousandths of a second what is and isn't working.

yup, a racetrack has more controlled conditions than a normal road (and there isn't any deer to hit...gosh all that green goo was nasteh!)

thanks everyone thats really helps. I know what clutch slipping is, i just asked how to purposely do it. Appreciate the help. :grinno: I will try it all out this weekend.

just remember.. radials stick better when they are cold. dont do a burnout on street tires and especially dont go through the water. drive around it. water will get trapped between the treads and make the wheels spin...

Dang, i didnt know that, i have always gone thru the water and done burnouts. Well i guess i noticed an SRT-4 and some other cars doin that. HMM, cool. THanks

Where I live, I'd have to drive an hour to the middle of redneck bumf*ck to do the 1/8 along with a bunch of mustangs... rarely any imports ($10)... or drive another hour down the interstate to run the 1/4 with a bunch of mustangs ($?) or go 2 hours to Atlanta, Ga which would be great but it just seems to far to go to race a daily driver... oh well
