Window Tint

Is there a way to remove the window film/tint from my back window? Whom ever did it, did a fine job on the sides but screwed the back window up. It's all bubbly now. Any tricks to get it off and replaced is appreciated.

Go to a pro that backs their work up, trust me they will do a better job unless you have experience at it. If you still want to do it yourself try heating it up with a blow dryer and then using a blade to get it started and it takes alot of work to get it all off, be careful not to ruin the defroster strips. When your done you may need to buy some GooGone (Walmart or Target) to get rid of the sticky residue. Thanks, Based on reading the link you supplied, I beleive the safest best route is the pros. I am glad I asked before trying because it looks like it is removed much differently than I would have done. And, I tried installing tint a few years ago, won't try that again.

You can simply use water or water with a little amonia in it to do the job. Start at a corner and get it lifted. squirt some water behind the tint and as you peel, add more water,,,I have had great success with amonia and water, but make sure you have a towel andcleaning supplies when you are done.

Purple tint usually means cheap-ass window film. Bubbly usually means the adhesive used to apply the film is dying on you.

Agree with the suggestion to go with the pros. Also do your own homework to make sure the pros are using good window film for you on your new tint so bubbling doesn't happen again.

also....be VERY careful with what you use to clean the inside of your windows if you have tint. Anything with ammonia in it will turn it purple. You can find stuff that is safe for window tint at any autozone or similar store. I have 5% on mine, and I've had it for over 3 years and it's still dark as hell.

To be honest, the best way to clean them is with a damp (with water) cloth -- works everytime for me.

Heh, I used to do that all the time. I picked it up while working at a boy scout car wash when I was a kid. Then I ran across one of those free classified ad type papers that always seem to pile up in my driveway. I dunno what kind of ink they used, but it stained the crap out of the tiny scratches in the windshield of my old car, along with the (white) door pillar area between the side windows. You should have heard the howls of agony when that shit didn't come off for a couple of weeks. I use one of those shockingly fluorescent fake chamois things now.
