I believe the factory recommendation (at least on the newer ones) is that no fluid change is necessary for the life of the vehicle under normal service. Severe service still recommends changing it.

But they are saying it is 'sealed for life'.

Your typical TC holds about 2-3 litres of fluid, therefore you should be adding at least 9 litres. I haven't looked at my tranny up close - is there a fill hole, and guage? I know that there's no dipstick tube on the LS.

Changing the fluid was one job that I didn't trust myself to do, had Ford do it and paid for their super duper pumping machine.

I don't believe that our tranny fluid is good for the life of the car, the fluid from my 2000 @65k miles had a burnt smell to it, and wasn't very clean. Also it felt like it was slipping a bit on gear changes.

Probably has to do with my driving style, which could be considered 'severe' :D.
