99 Cougar alarm problem

A couple weeks ago the alarm started sounding on its own. Inserting the key into the driver's side door did nothing. The only way to silence the alarm was to pull the fuse. The remote door locks must be on the same circuit, because they no longer work. Is there a way to "reset" the alarm so I can put the fuse back in and get back to normal? Any help is appreciated.

the same thing happened to my 99 cougar. have the fuse put back in and have someone disconnect the binding switch. this will not have any effect on the power locks or horn.

Thanks, 99cougar. I'll give that a try. Do you know where the binding switch is located?

there is probably a short within the wiring. there's a hood tamper switch that could be binding. if this is the same problem as mine then just have it disconnected. i believe that this switch is connected to the silver box that is located on the passeger side, under the glove compartment. if you still need help, i'll do what i can. i know what it's like to have your alarm go off for no reason. embarassing, right?
