At 29k my Honda Accord 2001 had to have the srs sensor replaced/reset (?). dealer says it is from putting purse or coffee cup and holder in front passenger seat. Has anyone else had this problem??? I have never heard anything like this before.

There is a sensor in seat which determines weight of person in seat and based on that it will deploy air bag with appropriate speed. When weight is detected, but very small SRS computed think it could be a small child, in which case it turns it self off, small child can injured or killed by air bag.
But if SRS light stays on when there is nothing in seat you definitely need to have your car checked by dealer. And there were cases when that sensor went bad.

Had same problem with my 2001 accord. Sensor under the passanger seat went bad. Cost $350 installed from dealer, unless the car is still under the warranty. Very common problem with 98-2001 accords.

I think i might have the same problem but I have a honda accord 2001 with the v-tec I want to know how can i verify for sure that iit's the sensor. My srs light is always on. I'd just like to be sure before sending it to the dealer. If it is the sensor, is it really hard to replace ? thx in advance

I have the same problem, light is on. Various browsing on the internet has led me to believe that my OBDS unit might be bad, but it could also be set off by usage of an electrical device close to the rear of the front two seats.
Does anyone know how to reset the SRS sensor without going to the dealer and paying the $90+- fee to run diagnostics?
Thanks,
CV

you can't reset a hard code in the SRS system...if there is a failed part, then the system disables itself and you have to repair the faulty part. that is the only way to reset the system

I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Accord. SRS light is on permanently. I first noticed it shortly after my wife let our 8 year old sit in the front seat for a short drive to the neighbors house. I thought it might have affected the computer when it sensed the low weight.
Anyway, I read other posts on this forum that describe a procedure for reseting the light using a jumper on a 2 wire cable plugged into a placeholder plug near the fuse box. (Goes something like this - turn key to ON, jump plug, wait four seconds, unplug, etc). Does anyone know if that trick works on a 2000? I would like to reset the light and see if it comes back on so I know if I really have a problem.

i have a 2000 v6 and i have the exact same prob, that lil red light never goes out lol. i had it reset once by a friend who had the machine for i at his shop. the orage airbag light for the passenger side does come on occasionally based on weight and if the seatbelt is buckled or not. however those sensors for the orange light have been faulty as well. i think it was a recall on it and there is also a recall on some modual (sorry its been 3 yrs since i had it fixed) so check on the list of recalls. all the ones i know abotu so far involve: ignition swich, SRS sensor (driver & passenger), seatbelts, and an extended warrenty for the transmisson

THanks guys... all of this helped and I solved the problem... Dealer fixed, even though the vehicle had a salvaged title...

Well I bought a 2005 accord and shortly after buying the car my srs light came on...my buddy told me after running the code that it was the seat sensor...I was not about to give honda 105 bucks to run a check on top of paying them 185 for a stupid key and them telling me that my door locks were not working properly when they were before the reprogrammed a new key..anyways called the dealership and the guy told me $490 for a seat pad or $172.90 for the obds...right now I am pulling out my hair cause this car that was in great condition I bought for $7100 is turning out to be a expensive deal....I am missing my mazda 6. So you all having more luck then me....what did you find needed to be replaced? They told me they were going to charge $170 in labor to take the seat out...replace what needed and I wanna cut the middle man out.
