what if i were to take a sr20ve and put the sr20det header/ turbo and buy a front mount intercooler kit

would that make a better engine than a sr20det or would it for some reason be bad

The compression ratio is too high in the SR20VE to do that safely. If you want turbo, get a DET. If you want N/A, get a VE. If you REALLY wanted to boost the VE, just be careful doing so. And remember that your transmission will need some work to handle the extra power.

cant u buy a det motor and a vvl head? that would be the best bet since the compression ratio would be of a sr20de and the head off of a sr20ve. the buy one of those vetch silonoid switch and set it to kick in when u want..right?

missing the point here guys, the head of a ve will have different compression charecteristics than that of a det head, combustion chamber is different size, you could always go low comp pistons but thats another thing on your list

Actually, that's not the problem when you swap the VE head. It's just a slightly different design and there is some drilling for oil feed lines required and some other stuff. Not really sure. You'd be better off getting a VE and turboing it after you put DE or DET pistons in it. But like I said, there's really no point unless you're looking for a turbo SR20 with more hp than torque. You can get the same results with a DET with JWT S3 cams which will give you turbo power and a peaky top-end.

There is a guy(Big Jon) on the sr20forum who did this and because the VE head is so much more effcient he was getting 238.8hp to the wheels with 7 psi. He is still running 11.8:1 compression ratio, and it's off a T25.
