Y pipe or exhaust?

Should I get a Cattman Y-pipe first, or a GReddy SP2 first? Should an intake come before those two, or after?

Intake first, y-pipe second, exhasut last......

Definitely Y-pipe. I'd skip out on the intake unless you have other plans like FI/nitrous. From what I've read, the stock airbox is the best combination of throttle response and power. IMO, an intake on a Max is more for sound than performance.

y pipe is the best mod for the maxima. however it'll make the car obnoxious with a cat-back, i learned the hard way with my 95; budget y pipe+stillen cat back exhaust=noise.

my plan for this car is to keep the stock muffler and then just get the y pipe and midpipe. a muffler won't give you any power anyway. if i were you i'd get a stock 5th gen variable flow muffler.

Oh...so no GReddy SP2 then? I wasnt sure...whats the best mid-pipe I could get?

I have the SP2 and with my y-pipe, I had to modify the b-pipe because it was making too much noise. I had a second resonator added and now the car's exhaust note is perfect.

Definetly Ypipe first.

I would suggest leaving your intake stock, because it does offer the best low-end performance, just drop in a K&N panel filter. But at the same time if you have a HAI or CAI with a Ypipe, I think the power increase is more effective. And then once backed up with a full exhaust everything will come into play!

I have a HAI and a Budget Ypipe that has been wrapped with exhaust wrap. Performance is unbelieveable, now it doesn't feel great, but thats because my Knock Sensor is gone. But the Ypipe will add 15whp at least!! Best bang for the buck! The only problem with the ypipe like others have stated is it's terrible with full exhaust, makes it very loud!

I suggest your best bet is to get a bpipe RESONATED (Cattman, Budget, etc), and throw on a 2000-2001 Maxima Muffler. I heard this setup sounds unbelieveable. It's very quiet, but screams at WOT. This is the route I plan to go by.

Does anybody know if Budget offers a 2.5" bpipe?

Definetly Ypipe first.

a lot of people say that, and it may be true, but that is only helpful for 1st gear in any race situation. once you bring 1st gear way up and then shift you should fall into 2nd gear somewhere at or around 4000 rpm, if not a bit higher, which is too high to really care about low end performance. with a y pipe the typical dyno shows as much as 5 hp loss below 3500 rpm but since the gains are so high above that range it makes almost no difference.

...and as much as 30 hp above 6000 rpm. :iceslolan

From what I've read, the stock airbox offers the best combination of performance and throttle response. That's why I haven't upgraded mine yet.

Second resonator? How can I do that, and is it like...expensive/hard to find and shit?

And how loud is that Cattman Y-pipe/SP2 setup exactly? I read somewhere it was an excellent setup with a nice growl..no hissing or anything. Is it that annoying?

As of now I guess I'm goin with either a Warpspeed/Cattman y-pipe..(not sure which yet, need help deciding on that too)...and an SP2. Like I mentioned earlier, I need to find out where i can get a 2nd resonator, and if it's really that necessary. I just dont wanna sound like an asshole drivin down the street...being all noisy and whatnot

I had a shop do it for $60 total. I'm of the opinion that any aftermarket catback with a Y-pipe will be excessively loud due to the removal of the precats and removal/shortening of the resonator in the b-pipe.
