So recently I realized that the lug nut key for my tires are missing. I contacted the guy I bought the car from and he said that he doesn't have it either. Is there any way that I can get a replacement key? Or am I super screwed??? :(

the mitsubishi dealership has a master key and can undo them, just get them to undo them real fast and just drive home on 4 lugs, i've done it before, its fine. My mitsu dealership did it for free, but then again, we have the best service department in the state, and my uncle is the director of used acquisition there.

Hotshot8792, if they didn't do it for free, do you know how much it would cost?
azn3000GTRacer, do you know if a base model's key would be the same or does it have to be type for type (base for base, SL for SL, etc). Also, does it have to be the same year or any year would work!?!
Thanks guys!

Just don't drive too long with only 4 lugnuts, or your rotors will suffer.

if they dont do it for free, which they should, it shouldnt cost you anymore than a couple of bucks because it only takes them about 30 seconds to undo all four of them. Just go up to them and tell them that you lost your locking key and needed to just get the four locking lugnuts off. Yea, dont drive on 4 lug nuts for a long time, but they'll be good enough to drive back home.

I replaced all my keyed lug nuts with standard lugs because I got stranded once when the key was stripped. I was driving at 85 mph when the right front tire went flat hardly felt a thing just a slight pull to the right. When I got out to see what was wrong, only to find the tire was in schreads. My dog and I had to hitch into town and call a flat bed tow truck (all wheel drive) all to change a tire. The only good thing to come of this is I now have great respect for low profile tires for there safety value. If they had been high profile i would have surely lost control and ended up in the ditch or worse.

I had two VR4s at the same time and the keys were not interchangable. The lug can be removed, but it usually ruins the locking piece.

Heh there are probably only a few different ones and you got lucky with your friends key. Is wheel theft realy that big a concern that you need a locking system like this?

The locking system came with car when the first owner bought it (I'm only the second owner). And since he doesn't have the key, I have to buy a new one.

osok_deadeye_21, how much did they charge you when they broke off the locks? How come they didn't just take 'em off? Wish I had money to get new rims like that... :oP
