coolant leak

i took my 90 rs camaro out today to have the oil changed
and i stopped to get gas and when i looked under the front
passenger side of the car i noticed a puddle of fluid, couldnt
tell if it was oil or antifreeze. i looked closer and it was antifreeze.
i looked all around the radiator found no signs of a leak. it
is dripping down from behind the motor on the passenger side.
my floor board is wet on the pass. side also, but its like water,
there isnt a smell to it. im kinda worried, my dad said that
it could be a bad freeze plug, the car set for several months.
but i did go out ever couple of days and let it run for a while.
could it be my heater core, or just a rotten heater hose on the
back side of the motor.

i see, I didn't catch that at first, it's possible, a heater hose of some sort.

i would let your car get to full temp and then go look for the leak usually it will be squrting out , ive had a couple leaks , there easy to fix , mine usually happen from rubing again a belt or just get old and crack

some vehicles have a drain hole from the AC and heater box under the dash that drains out the fire wall to get rid of condensation and or a heater core leak. that could explain the leak inside and outside the car. turn the heater on full blast and smell for antifreeze and see if it fogs the windows

could be a loose heater core hose, leaking down the front of the firewall, and down the nipple of the heater core into the car. youll have to remove the dash to get to it. and i mean completely remove the dash assembly to get to the heater core box. actually i just pulled my dash in the IROC, some more wonderfull wiring to repair, as in the whole instrument panel harness, so i figure what the hell, while im here i might as well put in a new heater core, especially if its the original, that way i wont have to pull the dash again next year ;)

do i take out the whole dash or can i remove the
top pad and speaker to get to it? or could i go through the bottom?

yeah but my car has a damn air bag system and
antitheft crap to fool with. i remember my mom had
a 85 z28 my dad just removed the pad and took out all the air ducts and changed it.

its gotta be the heater core. I just did mine on my truck. i had a puddle of antifreeze on the floor on the pasenger side. but i dont know how to do them on camaro's.

well i suppose its possible to just take off the top pad, and shove your arms down in there, and curse and bitch and moan to do it. id rather just take off the four bolts holding the assembly on, pull it away and have room to work. (naturally there is a bit more to it than that, but eh, details)

my dad talked about putting a shut off valve to the heater core. and just do that. but i did buy a new
heater core this morning. so im going to do it.

hey, just by pass the heater core, get a elbow
and connect your heater hoses together under
the hood of your car. thats what i done on my
red one. it worked.

well from the sounds of things, he probally keeps it put away in a garage during the winter anyway, he has enough cars to go around. i checked his profile out. he must be richie rich's son.
