Check engine light ?!?!

My car seemed to be running fine until i was rolling at about 20 miles an hour... wanted to play around a little bit and threw it into first. First gear doesn't red line until about 30-35 miles per hour so I did not think it would be a big deal.
The second my car jumped the check engine light turned on. Now first gear seems to lag in the middle of the gear. Maybe this is what "bogging" is I am not quite sure. But I just got the car so I am concerned something might be wrong with it. The bogging isn't too severe and doesn't always happen. But it never happend before this.
If anyone can help me out that would be great. Maybe fill me in on how to check what could be turning the light on.
Thank you!

pull the code. Pull back on the carpet on your passangers floor and look for the eye on the ecu. Turn the key to on and count the long and short blinks.

Code 9 is #1 cylinder position. Looks like you may have slipped a tooth on your timing or something. Who the their right mind drops into 1st gear at 20mph?!?!?

Obviously I am not in my right mind heh.... So what does all this mean for me? This is my first Honda and I don't know very much about what kind of work needs to be done for this problem.

I'm not totally sure how to go about trouble shooting it. But if it is timing, is sounds like it slipped down low and not up at the cam gear.

Sometimes it doesn't red line at the same spot as it used to... it used to red line at 7400 but sometimes i will hit the rev limiter at like 6800.... I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

yeah if its not good and warmed up it does that, i have tried to like drive off from somewhere flooring it, trying to show off :attention hehe, and it just hit the rev limiter and i felt dumb. :banghead:

could be one of two things:
1. Your timing slipped a tooth or two off.
2. If ur car was a dx, and it was wired for an si (mpfi) the wires added at the dist. could have come loose (if they weren't soldered)
If you have an si, then I'm almost 100% sure ur timing has slipped.

Its a DX model.... and i talked to my friend that works at a honda shop in vegas, and he said to buy a new distributor. So as soon as I can I am going to hit the junk yard.
Also... My ECU is constantly blinking while I am driving... is that a bad sign?

your ecu is blinking because its throwing a code. so until you get it to stop throwing a code its going to continue to blink.

i got the same problem except i didnt drop into 1st doing 20 recently, but my engine light comes on for no reason, driving granny style, sometimes it takes as little as 10 minutes to come on, or sometimes it just dont come on at all, but yeah i tried looking at my ecu but it is just blinking normaly, do i have to turn of the car then turn the key on to check for the code?

oh yeah its a 91 si with a header and blown gasket off the header itself, maybe thats the reason

As long as the car is on it will flash the code. And know a exhaust problem has nothing to do with the timing.

My ECU is blinking like that one stops one stops one stops... figure code 1=oxygen content... going to replace O2 sensor whenever I get a chance to use a garage.

Yeah I'm throwing a code 1 as well at the moment. Most definetly because I blew the gasket out between my header and downpipe. Fucking bolt fell off and everything got loose. No idea how. So I've got a sheet of gasket sitting in my back seat. I just need to get motivated now.
