I just adjusted my valve clearance and now my idle is around 200-300 and it stutters when cold. But when it get really warmed up it goes back to 700. Any ideas? Car works great after the valve adjustment in terms of pickup and performance, except for the idling.

check the idle air control valve

idling at 200-300 RPMs is i think impossible. But yea check the idle air control valve. Adjust it and see if it makes a difference.

Yeh its possible cuz its just above "0" and it cut off once at a stoplight. once it gets really hot, it goes back to normal about 700. where is the idle air control valve?

coming back to what you did first,valve clearances should be (cold)0.18to 0.22 inlet--0.23 to 0.27 exhaust.also check air/vac pipes for integrity.plug gaps1.0mm to 1.1mm

Well for my 91 CRX Si D16A6 motor. I had to unplug the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) while the car was running and the adjust the Idle Screw which was located on the Throttle Body.

jimcrx the screw you adjusted is not a idle screw its an air screw and should never be touched it is pree set at the factory and i assume you had to scrape all the epoxy that was all over it. if you want to adjust the idle there is a little screw on the butterfly that your throttle cable hooks up to. everyone always messes with the little air screw and you it does bring the idle up. but it messes with your ecu

I have a different kind of idle problem, i just swapped a jdm b16a into my hatch. the idle will bounce between 750-1350 rpm. when you first start the car, it doesnt and idles fine. after it starts moving and then you push in the clutch the bouncing of revs begin again. sometimes it will even itself out but others it doesnt. What could i try to fix it?

i had the same type of problem when i did my first B16 swap but mine would bounce between 1000 and 1500 rpm and it turned out that the bracket i made for my throttle cable was pulling the idle up just a little. so i rebent the bracket and that solved the problem. if that isnt your problem then you may have a iacv problem or there could be an air bubble in your coolent by the iacv or a faulty iacv the way to test for this is to take off your intake and look inside the throttle bodie and you will see a large hole on the back wall of the throttle bodie spray some carb cleaner in the hole with the car running if it momentairly goes away then the iacv is stuck. this may also fix the problem. let me know what you find out

RPMtuner, not trying to start an argument with you or anything, but my manual for the car says to do what I said if you need to adjust idle. Nowhere does it say messing with the butterfly for the throttle cable. I dont think messing with that would fix the idle. That butterfly adjust the tb to open up upon acceleration?

your probably rite if it says so in your manual. and if there was no epoxy in the screw thats possable to. but from the experience of all the hondas ive worked on the idle screw is at the stop for the butterfly. essentialy when you screw this in it holds the butter fly open to alows for more air, wich in turn brings your idle up. im not talking about the cable adjustment with the two nuts. your butterfly is inside the TB the butterfly is connected to yoke or arm outside the TB your throttle cable is hooked up to that. now if you look on the bottom of the arm it will have an adjustment screw. but its a SOB to get at.
