barely visible odometer display

Have 02 Explorer (early model)... odometer/display barely visible during normal daylight... OK at night... Ford recognizes problem with early '02 models but says display is normal. Vehicle has 70k miles and has had this problem since new... anyone have any suggestions?

Could be the start of the infamous "intermittent odometer" problem that is common in 02 Explorer and other models from 99 - 03. Lots of good info about the problem at http://www.odometer-repair.com . Good luck!
