When Hollywood Attacks

ABC news aired an interesting segment concerning the content of movies being released. Lately, Hollywood seems to be cranking out a slew of movies with a liberal message. The Day After Tomorrow is a movie about the disastrous effects global warming can have on the environment. Fahrenheit 9/11 is scheduled to be released June 25th and we all know what that’s about. There’s a remake of The Manchurian Candidate which has already aired, Tour of Duty which is about Kerry’s military service and the next movie due out is The Hunting of the President.
I’m not worried after all look at how The Day After Tomorrow has done in the theaters and look at the movies raking in the bucks. A movie about a talking donkey and a green giant is the #1 movie in the US and close behind it is a movie about a boy wizard and his friends fighting for good.
This summer Spiderman II will be released and other action movies. Those liberal movies don’t stand a chance in hell of earning big bucks; they’ll quickly disappear out of the lime light.

Not at all worried? Then why start this thread?
You've quoted 2 childrens' movies as being the highest grossing movies in America this week.Is that relevant to your argument? ar the 6-16 year old age group a big voting block in the US? Is one single voting adult likely to have their democratic opinion swayed by Shrek2,or Harry Potter?
The fact that you value comic-book heroes over political discussion indicates exactly how much thought you have put into your political persuasion.
And the fact that you think that people like Michael Moore[whose film justifiably took out a major prize at the Cannes Film Festival] are only interested in "big bucks" as you so eloquently put it,proves that you know very little about the people that you appear to hate.
Ignorant hatred is so sad.If you are going to hate someone, you should at least know a little about them.

Who said I value comic book heroes?? I was merely pointing out the hatemongering of Hollywood. The sleazbag Moore and those of his ilk are getting beaten in the boxoffice by comic book heroes though.

Again you miss the point, probably intentionally, but still,I'll spell it out for you.Spiderman won't influence a single voter.Michael Moore will. And that's why you strated this thread, because you know that he will, and you know that Bush will need ever last swing voter [and probably another corrupt Florida result] if he is going to be allowed to carry on killing for a second term.

You don't think voters will watch Spiderman or Shrek? I got your point....just trying to make mine. I don't think Moore will influence many. The people who will enjoy his crap will have made up their narrow minds before they watch the trash.

MM is gonna have one helluva time influencing voters with his movie if nobody bothers to go watch it.
There seems to be some trouble with getting theaters to pick it up, from rumors I'm hearing.
I'll just wait and see what the box office numbers are. As for the rest of Hollyweird, I rarely waste my time.

i have nothing to say really for or against the movies, but it is my opinion that those who are going to watch Moore's movie(s) have already made up their mind who they are going to vote for anyways. I do not think that his movies are going to be a factor in gaining voters or changing voters minds.

He better learn to tell the truth in his movies then. But wait a minute, his whole life is imaginary! Hollywood was created by people whose lives are a living lie. They are paid to have a fake personality. No wonder they have no grasp of reality.

This is the stupidest thing ever. Why the hell is science fiction "liberal" that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Why is "global warming" liberal? I mean honestly, the bitching and whining from the right about how "liberal" everything is, is non-stop - and it's still stupid as ever.
Before long, we're going to hear that buttered toast is liberal, that chicken sandwhiches are liberal, heck people would probably even say that electricity is liberal.

i was surprised when a movie review of of MM's new film on FOX NEWS (of all places) urged everyone, conservative or liberal, to watch the film.
i also find it amussing that the gladhatter thinks its all kerry fans attacks, as MM supported general clark in the primaries. i think the only reason MM will be voting for kerry is so that he doesnt have to vote for bush.
and yes, hollywood tends to be somewhat liberal, but i dont see why a movie about the dangers of global warming is bad. global warming happens outside of politics, its isnt something liberals are making up.
and yes, shrek and harry potter are out doing everyone else (and harry potter with good reason...absolutly mind blowing cinematography) because people go to the movies to be entertained, not to be inundated with political messages. though i dont think day after tomorrow is doing poorly because of its message, more of the fact that its a horrible movie in general.

Fahrenheit 9/11 is scheduled to be released June 25th and we all know what that’s about.
It's about great box office from political truth.Hopefully it will translate into votes.
'Fahrenheit 9/11' Tops $8M in First Day
By DAVID GERMAIN
AP Movie Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's assault on President Bush, took in $8.2 million to $8.4 million in its first day, positioning it as the weekend's No. 1 film, its distributors said Saturday.
Based on Friday's numbers, "Fahrenheit 9/11" was on track for an opening weekend that would surpass the $21.6 million total gross of Moore's "Bowling for Columbine," his 2002 film that earned him an Academy Award for best documentary.
"Bowling for Columbine" holds the record for highest domestic gross among documentaries, excluding concert films and movies made for huge-screen IMAX theaters.
Friday grosses for "Fahrenheit 9/11" ran about $1.5 million ahead of its closest competitor, the Wayans brothers comedy "White Chicks." The performance of "Fahrenheit 9/11" was even more remarkable considering it played in just 868 theaters, fewer than a third the number for "White Chicks."
"Fahrenheit 9/11" benefited from a flurry of praise and condemnation. Supporters mobilized liberal-minded audiences to see it over opening weekend to counter efforts by some right-wing groups to discredit the film.
"It always helps when there's a group out there that says, 'Don't go see this movie. It's bad for you,'" said Jonathan Sehring, president of IFC Films, one of the film's distributors.
"Fahrenheit 9/11" paints Bush as a neglectful president who ignored terrorism warnings before Sept. 11, then stirred up fear of more attacks to win public support for the Iraq war. The movie won the top honor at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The film has ridden a wave of publicity since just before Cannes, when Moore began assailing Disney for refusing to let subsidiary Miramax release "Fahrenheit 9/11" because of its political content.
Miramax bosses Harvey and Bob Weinstein bought back the film and hooked up with Lions Gate Films and IFC to distribute it.
The fury over "Fahrenheit 9/11" resembled the firestorm created by Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," which rose to blockbuster status amid debate over whether it was anti-Semitic.
"It's like how 'The Passion of the Christ' redefined what a certain genre of movie could do at the box office, 'Fahrenheit 9/11' is doing the same thing," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "This blows away any conceivable record for box office of a documentary."

fantastic film, despite a few minor things that he didnt mention, like portraying that bush stole the election, while failing to mention 200,000 democrats voted republican that year.
anyway, absolutly fantastic film, whether you agree with him or not. there were parts that made me physically ill to see. not from gratuituous blood or gore, but from ignorance and stupidity and blatant elitism. look past the rhetoric, look past his oppinions, and this film will still make you question whether or not you really should vote for bush.
if nothing else, it'll make you cry
