I have found one of my two dream cars. A 95 caprice with the 5.7l engine. It is at a local dealership(a big well known dealership)for a pretty good price. Mint condition. The only problem is that it won't start, the car turnsover but won't catch. The dealer said that the man drove the car in and they haven't been able to start it since. The claim that since they are not a gm dealer they have to send for someone to come in. I really want this car but am really concerned about the starting problem. What should I do?????

Perhaps I'm not best suited to answer your question, but I have done a lot of work swapping a 95LT1 into my Jag. Love it (have some problems, which is why I registered here) and glad I did it.
I would jump at the chance, given that a compression test gives good results. See if they can do that for you, or if they will let you. How does it sound when it turns over? Any attempt at a go? Could be old fuel (When did the guy drive it in?) Could be as simple as a relay--the push-in relays under the hood get a little corroded sometimes. Or, could be a stuck-open EGR (I've experienced both of these, 0 to $60.)
I would probably make sure compression is ok, buy it, then take it to a shop with a scanner to quickly find the prob--worst case, computer?

I agree just do a compression test cause that can give you an idea if the engines internal components are good cause if it fails that you could be looking at some big bucks in labor for that but anyways a car basically needs three main things to make it start air flow, spark and fuel so if the engines in good cond as so the rest of the car i would get it!
