I don't know how many of you know this but in most cars you are given the option to manually select 2nd gear, but if you look at the counsel shifter in your car you only get od,d,1 no 2, but there is a programing trick that Ford threw in there, try this, next time you drive go into 1st on the shifter, then when you are ready to take 2nd just put the shifter into D and back into 1st and the car will go into 2nd gear, just a little trick that not too many people know about.

I presume you are talking about an AOD, for the newer ones have the OD on a switch.
It can get to be a pain in the ass though.

It's not necessarily a program as the AOD is not computer controlled. The trans will not and cannot shift into 1st unless under about 28mph unless valve body changes have been made. It will, however, go into 2nd at any speed up to top speed so be careful with this.

I hate the stock AODE it shifts too lazzy. So all you have to do is modify.

It isn't an electronic transmission. Tbirds NEVER came with an AODE. 4R70W in '94 and newer.
