Stuck Shifter

I have a 86 Samurai and had it in 4X4 4H and parked it after a quick round on my farm and got in it the next day and simply pulled the shifter out of 4H and it just stuck where it is in neutral and will not budge??? I am stumped. The regular gears 1-5 are fine. To me it feels like the 4x4 shifter the small one has the entire vehicle stuck in neutral? DO you have any suggestions?

You need a new bushing in the tranny. Do not force it and dont stick a screw driver in the tranny. You have to remove the top four bolts on the shiifter, remove the shifter and remove VERY CAREFULLY the old bushing and the pieces that broke off. Trust me they broke off. You can buy a new poly bushing off any zuke site. like petro works. the problem is the old busing gets so bad and old and brittle, it alows the shifter to drop lower than normal thus getting stuck. If you need more help pr detailed instructions, email me. good luck. Dan

This is a common problem with Zuk T-cases when the shifter bushing becomes worn. I assume you've got it out of neutral by now but, if you haven't already done so, you might want to pick up a Polyurethane bushing from one of the off road parts suppliers (wheelersoffroad.com, off-road.com, etc.) They seem to be much longer lasting than the OEM rubber variety and they're fairly simple to replace.
