well iwas watching the real world and they were out side a club and one of the white chicks said to some guy "what's up nigga" prsomething like that and they got into a big argument...well she went to the black guy on the show and confided in him...well he immediately took offence and got mad and said that he gets offend by people whose use that word...but he said he uses the word when he's with his friends :screwy:

retarded people...gawd they get on my nevers...same with the people who say "what's up dog"...i just look at them...do i look like a freakin dog...but everyone takes offense when another race uses the word...so i guess they can only degrade themselves :sly: man...hate when people call us nigger but we can use the same word...just make a slang word out of it

People that use the word themselves but get offended when others use it are hypocrites, plain and simple.
It's like those that call themselves African American when they have never even been to Africa, let alone come from there. I could take offense at that, after all, I am from South Africa, instead I just laugh at them.

Eh, i get called that all the time and im white. guess its cuz all my freinds are black. Some people are more sensetive to race then others. Words convey meaning and some words convey stong negative feelings. Its unfortunate that there are so many hypocrites when it comes to using some of the more racially charged phrases out there.

My wife is Chinese, though she was actually born in Korea (a real hair raising story on how her grand parents escaped during the revolution - complete with torture and pirates). Its interesting to hear her take on some race issues as shes from a very small minority where we live.

My own opinion is that people try and label everything - including other people. Few people conform to simple categories and I think it causes more harm then good in the long run.

there was a time when signs were posted up in the store fronts directed at specific nationalities of predominantly white people to not apply for the job, but i think that was about it....

i like to relate the N bomb to the infamous B word, it's ok for one woman to call another woman the B word, but it's horrible if a guy says it......same with Jewish people telling other Jewish people jewish jokes

my theory is that the word is said to members of the same race/religion/gender/sexual orientation, is so that it can be a desensitization factor. it's trying to be used so that it doesn't hurt as much when somebody says it. but lets face it, there are still small-brained, pig-headed, bigots in the world who use these words to hurt others. what i like to think is that when somebody(lets say uses the N bomb) towards a black person and isn't black, the black person can't decipher if the person who said it is racist or not, therefore instead of being an "Uncle Tom" they take offense.....Although i really don't like to say the word, or anything, i do take offense when anybody says it to me....

oh yeah and freakray, i think that they call themselves "African-American" because it's what they're forced into. Black people who take surveys or standardized tests for example, have to fill in a bubble telling what kind of race they are. instead of filling in other, they choose "African-American" because it's what seems the closest to their race...

Well, living in a very small community, if you arent white as a ghost, you are a minority. There are very few minorities (people of different language, and/or skin color) but they are greatly descriminated due to the fact they speak a different language or "have a year 'round tan". It is a shame, to hear these people being mad fun of, or descriminated because of this. I really don't see why this is neccessary. Last month, there was a black guy in my school, whom was being picked on by 4 white people. All because he was "walking through they're group"...BS..you hit him because he is different than you!...and it was obvious that was the case..as they were cracking jokes about how they "beat up that stupid nigger" :disappoin.

I , personally have never been on the other side of the racism, sure I have cracked a few racial jokes..but I'm sure the majority of us can be guilty of that one, in one snese or another. But, I had a chemistry teacher that really made us think about this. He spent 4 years in Kambodia (sp?) teaching the kambodians (sp?) whom are mainly of a darker skin color. And being that he is school glue white, year round, he was discriminated upon by these people.

I have never been discriminated by others about my pasty white skin, so I chose not to mock others because they have a "24/7 Tan"

brief history:
the N workd comes from the latin word for black (nigger, pronounced neeger). eventualy moved into a racial derogotry term.
now for the reasons its used by many black people.
the common belief is that if you use a racial slur in a positive way amoung yourselvs then the world will eventualy loose its power as a negative word. the only problem is they think its fine to use amoung them selves but no one else can use it. so in essece (sorry i cant spell this mornin) the word still has its power because many people still get offended.
its similar in the way that homosexuals have the gay parades, and those queer parades. to make those terms no long offensive.
on a personal stand point i dont like to hear racial slurs in any form. i feel that if you dont want word used by someone, then you cant use it your self. if you dont want them calling you the N word then dont use it infront of them, or dont use it at all.
And call me sensitive but i get offended when i hear racial slurs, even if some dont apply to me i know people who it would. and those people who think its funny to use them just make things worse. like that comedian who calls herself a "Fag Hag". which i find entierly offensive to everyone and dont get why its funny.

well here in south florida the average white guy cannot get a job unless you speak spanish,some area's down here only speak spanish

at my job i got passed up for a promotion,this black guy got the promotion b/c he was claiming that job was raciest b/c he was passed up for promotions before.the truth is that he sucked at his job,but they gave him the promotion for that he would cause a scene(i work in a goverment job)

Wow when I first read the topic I was like oh no this is going to get extremely heated, but everyone so far as ketp a cool head, well except for this last guy who resorted to capital letters :icon16: anyways my personal motto is "you got to be able to take it, if you wanna dish it out" don't call white people "honkey" or "cracker" or "opie" or anything like that if you can't handle being called nigga. My granpa was killed by 5 blacks (only pissed at those 5 for that, no one else), and three of them got let off for lack of substantial evidance, by a black judge. Had it been 5 whites, they'd all been fried. My grandpa was beat to death, then had words and designs carved into his faced. My grandma was beat till they thought she was dead, she was in a coma for a year then came back as a vegetable. 2 of the 5 got convicted, one for life and one on death row. The other three would stand outside my house and yell at my family, about how my grandparents deserved it. And the court system couldn't do anything cause they'd already been tried (double-jeopardy). They'd been tried and released by a black judge. Like I said, im not racist, but had that been 5 white guys in california in front of that black judge, they'd all been nailed.

i don't think a black judge has anything todo with it...but yes if it were 5 causasions and 3 got off...there would have been hell to pay and know jesse or al would have had something to say...they always condem violence by other races but their own....i can't say that i'm 100% right by that statement though

Personally, in my opinion it's not the word or the name that should offend it's the context in which it's used. I'm White.... I call my firends and say What's up dawg all the time. I have Spanish friends, I pretend to be black, sometimes talk chinese, but I have the highest respect for all races, and don't do any of this with any dis-respect to anyone. Everyone just needs to lighten up.

Well it's somewhat true to that. Magazines like Jet and Ebony were created because there weren't really any magazines in print that Blacks could really relate to. Same with Miss black USA, because black females wouldn't be allowed into the pageant. BET....that's around, because when music videos, the only black videos that one would be able to watch on MTV were ones with Michael Jackson in them really, other than that, a lot of black artists weren't shown on tv, so that's why BET came out....it was basically a Black MTV. Plus if you look at a lot of shows in primetime, how many minority shows can you name? other than the few shows on UPN, and My Wife and Kids or The george Lopez show, there aren't many else out there. I mean yeah sure there are roles with black people such as CSI or Law and Order, but that's as far as it goes. that's why they have Hispanic channels, Black Channels, and somewhat Asian Channels, because when you look at it, there's alot of White Channels on the tv screen.

And Jet-Lee i know how it is because i've had family killed by other blacks too. it's a horrible thing to go through, and i could see that that'd make you angry because it'd make me just as angry...just remember that when it's their (the killers) time to die, there won't be any mercy for them

This is always an interesting debate. I'm black, and I don't use any racial slurs. I speak english (not ebonics). I don't like to be called nigger by anyone, regardless of race. In my school days, I experienced racial abuse in a number of different ways (including verbal and physical assaults). :disappoin Sadly enough, racism is still around today. While I was in tech school, I was surrounded by a group of white guys and called racial slurs, and then was told I was going to be hung. :mad: When I reported the incident, it was disregarded as 'a joke'. :disappoin I don't understand how white people say black people are treated equally though. :2cents:

This is true it is annoying, but I think people should let them say it till they lose their voice. The word nigger was and is used as a deragatory term and means, lack of intelligence. So basically they're just calling eachother stupid which is what they are. So let 'em say it, they'll learn the hard way eventually what power that word can carry.
I personally think shows like Chappelle's Show are great and ground-breaking. I like the idea of people using out the word. It gets said so much in ever context that's still funny and it starts to lose it power of influence.
