Suckass rental car, Advice please

I was given a 2003 (or maybe a 2002) Ford Focus as a rental car while my 90' 240sx is in the shop. I know very little about the focus, it definatly is the base model though as the manual windows and mirrors and locks AND tape deck suggest. (2liter I4 FWD AT)

I took the air box off this morning, that seemed to give it a little more of a torquey feeling, But the car still lags really bad, Every shift it makes brings me to tears. I know on the Nissan AT's there is a resistor you can pull off of the auto trans, doing so greatly improves the grandma style shifting. Any one know if the focus has something similar, or any other adjustments I should make? I have to use this car for about 2 weeks, and after the first day I already feel like just taking my bike to work.

I miss my 240 so much right now. =(

Hardly, I have no sympothy for the rental agency or the insurance company that's paying for it. It took me 2 months to get a rental car because of my age (20). If they are going to hassle me because of my demographic for that long, I might as well fufill their stereotype. I'm not even going to treat it that badly, I mean heck it was 1 1/2 quarts low on oil so I changed it, The powersteering fluid was filled all the way to the top, so as soon as it heated up the top blew off and almost all of the fluid flew out, if any one else had rented this car and just driven it, they would have hurt it more with their ignorance. Anyway, this shifting HAS to go. Does any one have a link to the service manual or anything?

For taking the Focus? Probably. I could have gotten a GT grand am if I forked out an extra $8 per day. =(

Oh also the tires were at ~22 psi cold. Tires say the minimum was 32 cold, Obviously these people care very little for the condition of the car. The idea is that any thing I do to the car will be reversable. Did any one know if ford's AT has such an adjustment?

Gah, this car doesn't belong any where near a track, I don't have a problem with the focus, some of the models are pretty good, but the base model is just a bummer. Taking that resistor off of the nissan takes only a few minutes and costs nothing, If it's that easy (or even possible) on the ford, then it's definatly worth my time.

i dunno why you should spend so much time on a car your only going to drive for 2 weeks, they might even make you pay some ungodly ammount for it or whatever. then dont take it to the track, take it to the backroads, and if you lived in washington...take it to Reiters Pit. you can have some fun up in there.

You fail at posting.

I've got the car engaging a little quicker now. I will be eagerly awaiting the return of my 240. Next time I think I'll pan out the extra 7 bucks and get a less sissy car.
