gluing bodies

Do you guys glue together your model bodies before painting or after. I went ahead and put together most of the body for the Mercedes CLK DTM even before priming so I can clean up any glue that squeezes out of the joint. But, it looks like it will be a PITA to paint and keep it even. Any suggestions?

Well, personally I usually glue the majority of pieces on before painting, an example is the fujimi Veilside Nissan Silvia I did.. I glued front and rear bumpers, side skirts on before painting, put painted my spoiler separately. It all depends on personal preferance, I find, when I have a Body, Bumpers, Side Skirts, Hoods, etc.. all separate, I have trouble getting the same shade of paint on each peice, some may end up with a thicker coat of paint than others.

It also depends on the kit. The Tamiya Ferrari F50 is very hard to paint in one piece. I did everything seperately. Also, when I got a opening hood or trunk, I paint theme seperatly as I want to have the sides of everything painted too. I always glue the parts that aren't able to move when finished (like the skirts) before painting.

Yep !!! Similar routine with Aoshima's VIP kits, the bumpers & side skirts glued on first before painting. Not the case with all kits, i fudged up on a model i had up here on AF a few weeks ago, a Revell Benz S600. The rear bumper should have gone on at the same time as the lights all painted up & ready. I'd glued on both the bumpers at the start & painted the body as one, anyway this meant that the lights were a real pain in the arse to fit, had to get the blade out !!! Sorry to "go on" here but what i will say is always study the instuction sheet properly before begining on a model beacause i didn't with that Benz..............
