very important...

put the piston @ TDC according to the notch on the crank pully. install the adjuster and spring, tightened at the loosest setting. Put the belt on the crank pully, then the adjuster, then water pump, then cam pulleys. release the adjuster. turn the crank counter-clockwise three cam teeth (watch the cam gear to move 3 teeth, then tighten the adjuster. DONE. I just did this a couple hours ago, it is what the FSM recomends and it works great.

or also to set it to TDC you can take a long screw driver and take out the spark plug from cylinder #1, which is the one closest to the timing belt, and put the screw driver down the hole and then turn your crank. Once you see the screwdriver come all the way up and start to come back down thats almost TDC, now back it off just a tad and you've got tdc. Very easy. Then to set your timing, I sudjest using white out or something that won't rub off and make two marks on the cam gear and timing belt. No way to screw it up that way.

why bother with the screwdriver when all you have to do is line up the TDC mark on the crank pulley... your method seems a bit crude and primitive and also innacurate.

Whatever man, I think my way is just as good. I dont have to take my wheel off to look for the mark.

lol. open the hood, look down at the crank pulley, if the TDC mark isnt lined up, turn the crank pulley bolt (which you can easily get to by turning the wheel to the left).

you still have to turn the crank pulley bolt with your method, only you dont check to see if the mark which was purposely put there to set the engine at TDC. :P

why would you take the wheel off, you can see the mark from the top of the engine.

I dunno, I never did it with the mark so I don't even know where it is.

if you dont know where the timing marks are, that tells me you've never set your ignition timing.

you might to look into that :P

Nope, haven't had to do that before.
