side question: when theres a 4ohm sub... does that mean that 8ohm is not gonna work or that 2 ohm impedance wont work...

If the box is and amp are already wired together and worked in your brother's car there is no need to change it. You will need to run a power to the battery. Gauge is determined by the amount of current the amp pulls. You will need to fuse this power wire under the hood close to the battery. Next you will need to ground the amp somewhere in the rear of the car. Do that to a piece of freshly cleaned metal...free of paint. Preferably a spot where there is double metal. Also ground the amp with the same size wire as the power and make it as short as possible. Next you will need to run a RCA cable and a turn on lead to the head unit. Hook up the turn on lead to the turn on output of the head unit and the turn on input of the amp. Plug the RCAs into the radio...either the rear out or if the radio has it a sub out.
That should cover it.

thank you so much....can anyone provide me with a diagram , just to make things easier ??

How much easier can it get...you have three wires and an RCA cable. Positive on amp goes to positive on battery...negative goes to ground...turn on goes to turn on output from head unit...RCA in on amp to RCA out on radio. All done have nice day.

when a sub is a 4 ohm sub, can it handle an impedance such as 2ohms, and what about 8 ohms?

SickVette

yes...missed newbie...sorry..lol

The sub creates the impedance it does not handle the impedance. A speakers voice coil is rated at a certain impedance. An amplifier is rated the impedance it can handle. The lower the impedance the higher the power output (in most amps) but as power output goes up does current consumption, heat output, and distortion. Also most amps are not low impedance amps...cut off is usually 2ohm stereo...which is equal to a 4 ohm mono load. There are amps that do go lower than and are often called low impedance amps or cheater amps.
