Hello and thanks to everyone for these very informative forums. I tried to post here a few minutes ago, but I must have messed something up. Anyway I will try again. I am desperate.
Situation: I was driving down to a local store at 20mph and my car suddenly died. No sputtering, just went dead like it was out of power.
It was very low on oil and water. I refilled those two liquids. I have a brand new battery. My timing belt has been replaced within the last two years.
I have always had a problem starting the car in the heat and I am aware of the main relay problem, but I tried to start it in cool weather several times and still no firing. The fuel pump is good because a mechanic freind said he could hear it come on. The distibuter has been replaced about seven years ago. This is a 1991 Honda Accord LX two door. I am getting fuel but no spark. Spark plugs are good. Starter has been replaced two years ago.
I got it towed back to my house. I try to start it and it trys to turn over
but will not. It sounds just like a normal car trying to start, but it just will not start. It has gas oil and water now. So on to my questions:
1. What would make it suddenly die(not sputter and die, but just die) going 20mph?
2. What do you think could be my problem?
3. Is there a place on the internet I could download a wiring diagram for this vehical?
4. Could it be my main relay? But that wouln't make it suddenly go dead in the middle of the highway?
Thanks to anyone that can give me some advice!!!! Thanks again.

i would think that ur distributor is at fault. Check for like cracking and carbon tracking on the distributor cap. Also try check for eroded terminals and the rotor for damage and stuff like that. Just an idea.

I had a similar problem on my 90, it just died with no real notice. It ended up being the ignition switch. Cost about $250 at the dealer and now it works fine. The big symptom is that the car begins to start as normal then when I let the key back to the run position it cut out. its something worth looking into.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Tonight when it is cooler I am going to check the distributer cap, main relay, and ignitor. I hope its not the ignition switch. Again the car is turning over but not getting a spark.
Where is the distributer cap located? Also where is the igniter located?
Thanks again!

the ignition coil also seems to cause this type of problem. But, it is more predictable. Usually affected by heat in engine compartment. It is worth having a look at. Good luck.
