Does anyone know how to clean out the emissions system? My friend stated that my cavalier's idle/stall problem is from emissions being clogged up or idle control valve. So I wondering how to get all the stuff sucked out of the emissions system?

There are a couple of ways to clean the emissions system on your car. First, look for a garage that offers what is called an engine vac. It costs about $70 depending on where you live. It cleans out all the carbon from the entire engine including the valves and tops of the pistons. It will clean the intake and the throttle body too. Second, you can do much of the work yourself if you are mechanically inclined. First remove the throttle body and take the idle control motor off. Use a spray can of carb. cleaner to flush out the passage ways and clean the carbon from the passage ways. Remove the plenum from the top of the intake and clean it in the same manner. Use new gaskets and re-assemble the entire system. Some computers will required you preform the idle learn procedure again to insure the idle air controller is working properly. Don't forget to clean the EGR valve passageways too. Third, you could take it to a mechanic to have it done. Good Luck!
