layouts..etc? need help

like.. i've watched quite a few of the animes and played ver.2 alot and i've always been confused on what FF/FR drive layouts stands for.. i know its meaning FWD/RWD and stuff but still confused..help me?

not sure how you are confused but I can see what I can do...
FF: Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive.
As you should alread ready know, FFs are more popular now adays because thier are more of them around. Honda Civics, Tiburons, Eclipses etc. They don't have a differental (that bump that goes down the middle of your car, that you have to step over when you sit in the back. )
FF's tend to understeer alot more
FR, is Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive. MR2s, FC3Ss, RX8s, Miata's, 240s etc have that set up. Much better for drifting, because the car is being pushed along, instead of being pulled as in the FF setup.
If that pushing/pulling thing confuses you. Go sit in a rolling chair. Drag your feet across the floor to move around. See how hard it is? That's how the FF setup works. If you turn around and push off to move around, that's how the FR setup works....
BTW: Don't ask, "which one is better" sorta questions, cause everyone has thier own options and biases from the cars that they drive and techniques etc etc.

-First off Mr Iketani, Front engine Front wheel drive cars do come with differentials, in fact every car hasa differential. They may not usually come with Limited slip differentials (power can be transferred from wheel to wheel, and split in between the wheels), and instead have open differentials (Open diff's only send power to one wheel at a time), but alot of Rear Wheel Drive cars have open diff's too. Also the diff tends to be under the trunk, and is always inbetween the wheels. What you are stepping over is the driveshaft tunnel, not the diff.
-Secondly Mr Iketani, the MR2 in all its forms is a Mid-Engined Rear Wheel Drive car, the engine actually sits infront of the rear axle, but behind the driver. A Rear engined Rear wheel drive car the engine sits behind the axle, and powers the rear wheels. An All Wheel drive car comes with 3 differentials, for splitting power between all 4 wheels. For example the Skyline can send most of the power to the rear wheels and act like a FR, or it can send the power to the front wheels to act like a FF, but most the time it spilts the power to where its needed. a 4 wheel drive car locks all the wheels together and they all turn at the same speed, useful for towing things, but not that great for racing. Sorry if I left anything out, I'll comeback and post later.
