Potential hybrid?

I have a 99EX, of course with a D-series motor in it. I know plenty of people have documented or at least heard of the LS or CRV frankenstein engines. Is there any way I can make my motor into DOHC without changing the block or putting in a whole new engine?

I don't believe that you can make your SOHC into a DOHC ... none of the D series engines come with DOHC so the only way is to have a B series head ... and swapping a B series head onto a D series block cannot be done ...

Just buy a ZC and drop it in. That's all the hybrid you need. I don't even think the ZC head will bolt onto other D series engines - anyone want to confirm or deny?

Oh and for the US guys... there is a D16A DOHC which came out in Aussie CRX's in '90 and carried through into the 5G Civics. But it was just a ZC with different engine code. :p

The ZC head and block are sufficantly differnt that the head can not be swapped onto another D series block with out some heavy machine work.
From my memories of hunting around old Honda sites before PH, I believe its actualy closer to a B series head. (but again they are not interchangable).

Its simpler and easier to just bolt in a complete ZC. :D

:(

Even if I did get a ZC, it's DOHC but it's not VTEC, right?

you are correct, but id go with a b16a, cheap and vtec!

Early b16a swaps are definitely cheap, but a late model b16a2, from what I've seen, costs almost twice as much, if not a little more, so it's pretty far from cheap, but I guess cheapness is relative. Anyway, thanks for all the feedback, y'all.
