window molding

The molding near the top of the door in between the rubber for the window and the top of the door on my car is faded almost to white. I just scraped it and it seems to maybe be metal. anyone know if it is or not? I was gonna buy new molding, but if its metal, I'll just paint it black again. Either way I'm gonna have to take that stuff apart, so I might as well save the money on the new molding piece if I can. I was just wondering if anyone else did this since all of our cars are over 10 years old and I'm sure others have faded from the sun and what not. Thanks.

Mine is down to the bare metal. I just left it that way and cleaned it up and polished it a bit. I think it looks better that way.:p

yeah, mine looks like shit, but it is metal then? maybe I'll play with it this weekend. I hate work - sun is just coming up on my way and going down on the way home. I've had my hatch shocks sitting in my back seat for 2 weeks now. Maybe I'm just lazy...:p. Thanks

Put a magnet on it. If it sticks, then it's metal :)

It's metal...and can't be replaced. unless you want to replace the whole door :) Just go get some SEM TRIM BLACK spray can paint from a paint supply, about 5 bucks...get the can to room temperature, mask off the car a bit and spray it. light coats!!!!!!! it'll look better than new :)
oh, and you can spray over the rubber....just roll the window down. it'll wipe off when it dries. do this if your too lazy to mask it ;)

i repainted the whole side molding of the drivers side door. I even did the bottom molding and side panel and it looks great. I just put on some flat black spray paint and some clear coat and it looks awsome like new again. But the upper rubber molding parts of the window is starting to crack since its rubber of course.

when it dries just run a rag or you finger over it, it'll just flake off.
