Alarm/Starting problems

Hello folks.
I've been trying to find any threads dealing with my problem, but didn't find any. I own a 1986.5 Supra non turbo and are having starting problems which I think have something to do with the alarm system. I'm somewhat machanically inclined, but can't pinpoint this problem. The original radio was replaced who knows by whom or how long ago. When I try to start the vehicle all I hear is a click noise by the passenger's kick panel as if a relay trying to make contact. In order for the car to start I made a short cut by wiring a cable directly to the starter and to the battery with a toggle switch in the dash board. The alarm goes on on its own or sometimes as soon as I open the door. I even disconnected the horns so I don't be enbarrased by the alarm going off all the time. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank
JR

Reset your alarm, MKIII's have a starter cut which is why you hear the main relay clicking but not the starter relay. To reset your alarm close the doors, hatch, and hood, and lock the doors using the key. Wait a while and then unlock the doors with the key, start the car and be happy. The radio has nothing to do with the alarm by the way.

I tried locking the doors with the keys and left it along for 20 minutes, but it didn't work. I went ahead and pulled all the relays behind the passenger kick panel from a spare car I have and put them on my car and I'm still having the same problem. How can I get "rid" of the alarm alltogether. Which circuit, computer etc controls the alarm. Can the problem be somewhere else in the starting circuit.
Thanks

I had the same problem. I heard it was the door locks that you had to lock and unlock three times but it turned out it wasn't. You have to turn the ignition to on then off three times. It worked for me anyway. tried the doors first and didn't work. Then the ignition and it did. This was after an after market alarm, a tow home when it wouldn't start, two trips to the dealership and about an hour of checking the voltage at the ecu as well as replacing relays. Car was down 2 weeks, hope you have better luck. =>

Thanks for the tips folks. Mike, I'll try with the ingition key on and off to see if it works. I'm not having that much trouble with the alarm anymore, however the no-starting problem persists. You didn't specify if your problem was with the alarm or the starting
Thanks

Hmm, well if the alarm isn't giving you trouble and the starter still is then your contacts are going out/getting dirty. Read and follow this classic SOGI tech tip.

The starter was replaced less than a year ago. The clicking is not in the starter itself, but in both the starter and circuit relays located on the passenger side. The car starts sometimes, but must of the times it doesn't. As I mentioned before, I have a hot wire direcrtly to the starter and the battery and that's how I get it to run.
Thanks for the tips. Anything else to try??

I didn't say anything about the starter clicking, I said if it randomly starts, it's most likely your contacts. The same problem can happen to a new starter all the same as a reman/new unit. Take that wire off the starter also before you burn something up.

there is a switch in the drivers door on the key lock that arms a disarmes the factory alarm . that part could be bad . you could try cleaning it with contact cleaner. it sounds like your factory alarm is armed. or the relay you hear could have a bad contact in it. get a wiring diagram and trace it down. check the starting curcuit first ,then the alarm curcuit.

my 89 supra 7mge has this problem.... I put a new battery on and the lights in the car and the alarm work, but my gauges won't cut on, or the radio, and when I try to crank it up, i don't hear the starter clicking or the fuel pump turnin on, so I looked into the fuse box and one fuse was blown, so I replaced that, but I'm not sure why the car doesn't still cut on!!!??? I also dunno how to check the big fuses that are in the box to see if they work or not? does anybody know was wrong with my car. I needed to get it running soon again, because I need to find a better job, please if you have any clue let me know.

My symptoms are as follows: I hear all relays turning on no problem, I hear my fuel pressure building up no problem , I can hear the gear set in the starting motor coming out no problem , but when it comes time for the engine to turn and start < NOTHING!!!!!. I tried to reset my alarm, That didn't help. Please help me out
